Or have lightweight cold paths. I ack maybe not always possible like your use case. But that's more exotic than the typical read data and turn it into html or whatever.

fondly remember a venture capitalist confidently telling me Lambda was doomed "because rust" .. about one month later AWS released firecracker (which powers lambda..and itself is written in, you guessed it, Rust)

I've definitely had a consistent view that building for the platform we have and keeping deeps minimal and restricted to essential complexity is a better path. Neat aspect of LLMs is much of our general best practice guidance applies (and is even more important if anything).

web dev is fine. standards, delivery and maintenance remain important as ever and require humans and machines both. heavyweight abstraction framework based dev doesn't really make much sense anymore as particular syntax affordances don't matter much to a machine. as always, outcomes > outputs.

We have a civic and provincial election coming up in BC (Canada). Reached out to a teacher friend and another friend who is a nurse for their recommendations on who to vote for. I had some ideas but this feels more important than ever. Feeling much better calibrated to vote for my values.

So hard to say but likely something useful rises from the ashes. Personally I think this technology creates more jobs and likely new kinds of jobs but all that remains to be seen. But I'm a naive optimist haha

This feels much different. During the late nineties there were tonnes of jobs and overwhelming positive optimism. Not seeing this moment drive job creation but it is a questionable excuse for layoffs. And even the founders of the biggest LLM vendors are pretty pessimistic about their technology.
