Last night, I joined neighbors from across Prince William County to pause and remember the 22 lives lost in our community and the families whose lives were forever changed on this fateful day 25 years ago.

Two photobooth style pictures show images from the Prince William County September 11th memorial, including memorial listed of Prince William residents who were killed in the attacks, the World Trade Center steel at the memorial site, and the Pentagon fountain.

Increased access to affordable, quality childcare is on the way, Virginia!
Text on a blue and red background reads: "Increase Childcare Access is on the way! Did you know? Only 42% of eligible families can currently access Virginia's publicly funded child care programs. House Bill 1208 changes that. By creating a standardized, transparent "child care access calculation" this legislation gives us a clear picture of what it truly costs to meet families' needs. With better data comes better decisions helping Virginia invest smarter, expand access, and ensure more families can afford high-quality child car when and where they need it most."

Words cannot fully express what Congressman Gerry Connolly meant to me, both personally and professionally. His passing leaves me, like so many, heartbroken yet deeply committed to continuing the fight he so fiercely believe in.
A picture of Delegate Sewell with the late Congressman Gerry Connolly. White text on a blue background reads:

"Words cannot fully express what Congressman Gerry Connolly meant to me, both personally and professionally. His passing leaves me, like so many, heartbroken yet deeply committed to continuing the fight he so fiercely believe in.

What began as a casual conversation after a congressional field hearing in Prince William County led to five incredibly rewarding years of service as a member of his staff. Years filled with purpose, passion, service, and the laying of the firm foundation on which I govern to this day.

While Fairfax County may have been where Gerry laid his head at night, you wouldn’t know it based upon how much time he spent in Prince William County. To us, he was more than our congressman, Gerry was our neighbor and our friend. He was always ready to extend a helping hand, provide wise counsel and deliver a perfectly-timed quip with a twinkle in his eye and a smirk on his face.

When many gave up on Prince William County, Gerry did not, he saw potential. He listened, deeply listened, and fought like hell for every voice to be heard. The same fire he brought to Capitol Hill, Gerry brought to our community and all who stood in the way of justice. He showed me, and so many others, what it means to show up, to fight, and most importantly, to deliver.

To Smitty and Caitlin: Thank you for sharing
Gerry with us. His legacy lives on in every life he
touched, every community he lifted, and in the values
he instilled in all of us privileged to work alongside him.

To the residents of Prince William County:
I grieve with you as I continue to fight for you,
represent you, and deliver for you.
Gerry never gave up, and neither will I.

Rest well, Gerry. We’ll take it from here.
#ForeverTeamConnolly"

Today, the House of Delegates' Emergency Committee on Federal Workforce and Funding Reductions is meeting at @virginiatech.bsky.social ’s Innovation Campus in Alexandria to hear presentations on the economic impacts of the Trump Administration on the Commonwealth of Virginia.
A picture of attendees at the VA House of Delegates
Emergency Committee on the Impacts of Federal Workforce and Funding Reductions, with the following text overlayed:

Virginia is more impacted by the federal reduction in workforce than any other state

Best estimates indicate we are at a 10 percent reduction in the federal workforce

Unemployment claims for Virginia, Maryland, and DC residents over the first 13 weeks of 2025 surpasses the unemployment claims filed in 2023 and 2024 combined

Approximately half of the federal civilian jobs in Virginia whether full-time or part-time are located in Northern Virginia

Virginia’s federal workforce is distinct:
Nearly twice as likely to hold a graduate degree compated to other VA workers
Earn nearly 2x more than private sector employees
Are more likely to work in high-paying fields compared to peers nationally

Virginia ranks 1st in the United States with $108B in federal contracts. On a population-adjusted basis, federal contract spending is $12,718 per person in Virginia, which is substantially above the national average of $2,099 per person.

26 percent of all state revenue generated by sales tax come from Northern Virginia.

Only 30 percent of the jobs in Northern Virginia are comparable to the jobs loss due to the federal reduction in workforce.

If DOGE gets what they want ( a 75 percent reduction in federal employment), Virginia would experience a 9.6 percent unemployment rate.

Gov. Youngkin vetoed paid family and medical leave once again turning his back on hardworking Virginians. Our families deserve better. I will keep fighting to make PFML a reality so no one has to choose between paying the bills and being there for their loved ones. #VaLeg #PFML💪🏾
White text on a blue background that reads:

This is not only disappointing but deeply concerning for hardworking Virginians who need this essential support. This bill had the backing of small businesses, doctors, and Virginia families.

Paid leave is vital to attracting and retaining a strong workforce and would have strengthened Virginia's economy by ensuring workers can care for their loved ones without risking their livelihoods.

I am disheartened for the small business owners who want to provide this benefit to remain competitive with large companies, the patients and caregivers who struggle to receive essential care and support their loved ones on their darkest days, and as if being a parent isn't hard enough, those who will continue to make the impossible choice of caring for their child an keeping food on the table.

Virginia deserves better. I remain committed to making Paid Family and Medical Leave a reality and look forward to working with our governor to ensure it becomes law."
