The slow and insidious dilution of our social approach to health care is one of the most disheartening things I'm watching happen. I fear that by the time the collective apathy is sufficiently overcome by enough individual people feeling a personal impact, the work needed to fix it will be massive.

But who could have seen this coming? EVERYONE. We all said this would happen. How did we know? Because we saw the same thing happen in other countries, like the UK. There are ways to minimize this effect, but of course Ontario has not taken any steps to that effect.

The 95, at its best and during peak times, benefited from having enough scheduled trips that the wait time for a bus was relatively minimal. Whether a rider was boarding the scheduled bus was subjectively irrelevant. Objectively, the whole 95 schedule was still unreliable, just invisibly so.

BretCB 🇨🇦 @bretcb.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I disagree that a late bus is "more on time" - that sounds to me like someone accustomed to an unreliable schedule. To your point, 0 - 5 minutes late is ok and still reliable in my opinion. Early arrival is also ok; early departure is not - early vehicles should wait at the stop, not blow past.

BretCB 🇨🇦 @bretcb.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Interesting. FWIW, in this context, I think it means, "the transit vehicle arrives at its stops on time", i.e., all interested riders can plan according to the published schedule.

BretCB 🇨🇦 @bretcb.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I agree that everyone in a program should be treated equitably, and being "forced" to do something isn't good. That said, a standard residency rotation in an underserviced area would probably improve both local service, and prospective physicians' perspectives, lateral thinking, and problem solving.

BretCB 🇨🇦 @bretcb.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Length of the trip is one metric, sure, and should be somewhat comparable. More important for transit, in my opinion, are availability, reliability, consistency, and ease of connection. And that includes getting around the city generally, not just commuting downtown and back.

This isn’t just “flu season.” It’s multiple pathogens circulating at once — and the harm adds up fast. Respirator-grade masks provide respiratory protection against inhalation of airborne pathogens. Layered prevention works: masking + ventilation + filtration + testing + isolation protocols.
