Hilroy hasn't been Canadian owned for decades. Currently owned by ACCO Brands, an American company with presence in over 100 countries. That's how a "Canadian" brand "forgets" that Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island exists. Add Hilroy to your #elbowsup boycott list.

Highlights of Marilyn Gladu, the latest MP defector to Conservative Carney: - listed as "anti-choice" by the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada; - open to introducing legislation restricting abortion; - opposed a ban on conversion therapy; and - rebuked for spreading vaccine misinformation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 8, 2026

NDP statement on MP Gladu's floor-crossing

Leah Gazan, NDP Critic for Women and Gender Equity, issued the following statement:

"It is outrageous but not surprising that in his drive to stitch together a majority government, Prime Minister Mark Carney is further sacrificing long-held Liberal positions on issues of fundamental rights.

Marilyn Gladu is known as a far-right social conservative. She is listed as "anti-choice" by the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada. She ran for leader of the Conservative Party of Canada with a promise to allow Conservative members to introduce legislation restricting abortion. And she opposed a ban on conversion therapy.

She was also publicly rebuked by her own former Leader for spreading vaccine misinformation.

We are seeing more evidence every day that Mark Carney is a conservative, and that there are now two conservative parties in the House of Commons. New Democrats will never stop fighting for gender equality and for reproductive rights."

That's the only correct answer when you hold up a pen during deposition prep and ask your client, "Do you know what this is?"

Instead, most clients start by saying, "It's a pen." Now we have a problem. Because when the deposition starts, and the real questions start coming, opposing counsel can follow up: what kind? How does it work? What's it made of? A clean answer just became an invitation to wander.

The rule is simple: answer the question that was asked. Nothing more."
