Took the pictures for this back in May and just got around to assembling them! More in the alt text

A composite photo of two portraits: Kehinde Wiley's Portrait of a Young Gentlemen and Thomas Gainsborough's The Blue Boy. They are both in the Thornton Portrait Gallery (as noted above the painting) at the Huntington in San Marino, CA. There is roughly half of each portrait showing with Wiley's on the left and Gainsborough's on the right. The elaborate frames are also composited in the same location. There is a detailed textured wallpaper on the wall the frames are mounted on.

Wiley's portrait depicts a young Black man standing in a jaunty pose, wearing a tie-dye shirt and shorts and holding a ballcap in his right hand. He is both in front of and behind a painted background reminiscent of William Morris Anemone pattern.

Gainsborough's portrait depicts a young white man standing in a similar jaunty pose, his left hand on his hip with his elbow sticking out. He's wearing silky blue 17th century clothes. He stands in front of a dramatically lit dark landscape.

Continued context: I've really enjoyed the curation and idea for the installation since Wiley's Portrait of a Young Gentleman was installed opposite Blue Boy. Earlier this year I had the idea of a composite of the two.

The poses aren't ~quite~ as close as I was hoping for a smoother transition, but still, glad to have finally gotten around to it!

Last time for me one of the dealers visited refused to give me any actual paperwork on a quote, just marker on a paper. Wouldn't even let me take that with me, also kept asking me what type of bank account and what bank the money would be coming from.

Dined al fresco this evening. Grilled green beans (not pictured) and cedar chicken packets.

A very, very distressing lion oven mitt that was a gift from my grandmother that my mom and I went back and forth hiding for each other to find in unexpected places. It isn't actually that bad, but it is very creepy to see when you aren't expecting it.

At first I was just going to hop out to look at the eclipse and not take photos, but then I decided I should take some. Then I was going to go to bed at a normal time... but then I dallied and thought might as well wait till totality. So I missed a bunch of stages, but, eclipse photos.

A WIDE picture with seven moons! The first two have the moon still mostly lit, the rest are a bit before or during totality.

Some possibly good news this evening, went outside and saw the glow of the sunset on the flag and decided to lean in.

Total anecdotes here, but I do typesetting for member rosters for a number of small local organizations. They've all been shrinking with the main membership changes being deaths. Seen a bit of a turnaround this year though and I'm curious to see if it continues next year.

Post a pic of when your pet was little. Electro was tempted/fished out of a storm drain with some inventive expedient engineering and a pouch of tuna fish at about 7wks old. These pictures are probably somewhere in the 8-10wk range.

Electro the cat (sorta snowshoe coloring) as a quite young kitten snuggling into a fluffy blanket with penguins on it with a roadbike with bright green taped handlebars behind him.

His eyes are barely open, his ears and paws seem a bit too large for his head and he looks gromp.

Our order of cat food was mis-delivered today, and thankfully subsequently brought to us by the person it was delivered to. HOWEVER, this ended up being super fortuitous because I got this amazing picture of a glass-pixelated dog looking out at the delivery from the tracking info.

Today we celebrated the life of Mary, who has been a great friend to my partner and I for a bit more than a decade. She was instrumental in us getting all three of our cats, and now the fourth, her cat Tommy(the grey one).

These are our three (main) cats, two were rescued from the streets of Downtown San Bernardino(Electro and Nestor), one from Riverside (Cassie). Cassie had gotten the boot from her family because of URI/eye infection, and took many days of tempting with Churu, and a carrier with a string on the door

Nestor, a gray tabby, perched awkwardly on top of a curtain rod(with frankly pretty ugly curtains).

Electro, a somewhat snowshoe looking cat who was fished out of a storm drain in Downtown San Bernardino, CA at about 7 weeks old, looking quite proper with his paws folded in front of him having deposited himself in one of his favorite places, the linen closet in the bathroom.

Cassie, a tabico cat, sitting in her most 'draw me like one of your french girls' pose on a couch, and looking very serious. She always looks very serious. She is very NOT serious.
