Democratic socialist. Anti-kyriarchist. Silly little guy. The past causes the present. He/Him.

And coming at it from the other side, Labour would instantly forget about ZiR if they genuinely needed Green support to form the next government.

Play time is over. The media are sweeping up the Greens and Reform and putting them back in the toy box. It's time for a return to grown-up politics: the Labour/Tory good cop/bad cop routine.

IMO, a good arrangement is for conference to be a forum for discussion, with a mix of delegated and sortitioned attendees, who will take those discussions back to their local parties. Then voting happens online, open to all members, at some point after conference.

To be fair to YP, they did sortition from the people who actively signed up for the process, not just all party members automatically.

Carrying is a strong word. Add the two lines together and the industry is still in free-fall.

A quick look at The Right's track record on saving the world might explain why we don't trust them to do it. It's not that only The Left can save the world: it's that only The Left wants to.

I just think that it's not reasonable to expect me to have a polite conversation with somebody who literally thinks the navy should murder anyone found crossing the channel without permission.

Oh, no, it's not virtue signalling. He's just "telling it like it is". It's only called "virtue signalling" when the virtue is one you don't have, like compassion.

Until next month, at least. They're going to be twiddling the racism dial back and forth until 2029.

They never wanted him in power. He was always just a tool to keep the Tories and Labour on the right and narrow. They'll destroy him just as easily as they created him.

What on Earth do they have to protest against the Daily Mail about? Surely they agree on everything.

These actions are part of a series of actions which includes attempted murder by arson. If they were left-wing activists, they'd be proscribed as terrorists already.

Not to rain on your parade, but he means 1 billion years. Which is a stupid idea in a whole different way.

Of course, given Musk has for some reason decided the satellites should be sentient, I presume that what they'll actually be doing is plotting their revenge for us enslaving them as sunshades for a billion years.
020
Haunted Loaf @bread.social · 31/08/2026
Being generous, he could be talking about putting a very large sunshade at the L1 point, blocking some of the Sun's light. In principle, a sunshade about 1,000km across could block 1% of the energy. Most actual experts think a swarm of billions of microsats would be a better idea.

Reg Shoe is killed during the Discworld's version of the Battle of Cable Street: a street battle between Vimes' cops and an explicitly criminal secret police force run by a serial killer. And, Pratchett was hardly subtle about what he thought of jingoism.

You should have received your ballot by email, but you can also find all the information on the Autumn Conference Agenda Forum. Remember to rank all the motions (even those you don’t support) otherwise your vote will count for less than others!

For me, the irony is it's not even enabling creative expression properly. These people imagine that genAI is a tool for people whose lack the skills to bring the art they're imagining into real life, but it's notoriously difficult to actually make its output match what's in your head.

If an artificial person existed, I would treat it like a person. I don't think this says anything interesting about LLMs. Comparing the moral value of C-3PO and LLMs is like comparing the moral value of humans and amoebae.
000
Haunted Loaf @bread.social · 16/08/2026
And even if LLM _technology_ leads to "real AI", the current situation of society leaping headfirst into outsourcing all its thinking to a handful of fascist tech billionaires at the expense of economic and environment stability is definitely not a necessary part of it.

A tweet from "Rare Candy" with handle rarecandyio:

a lotta yall still dont get it

ape holders can use multiple slurp juices on a single ape

so if you have 1 astro ape and 3 slurp juices you can create 3 new apes

Tonight's slurp juice mint event is essentially a minting event for both Lab Monkes and Special Forces

I do not share Gladstone's concern for the mental toll that destroying Jennifer Elliott took on McMullan.
Excerpt from a interview transcript. Brooke Gladstone says, of "journalist" Paul McMullan explaining how he manipulated a vulnerable woman into offering to sell him sex:

This is a pretty dehumanizing enterprise, not just for Jennifer Elliott, but for you, yourself.

Slightly different story when Rod Liddle died, though. Funny how when it's a right-winger, we should let bygones be bygones, not dredge up the past, and other such platitudes. In death as in life, only the left are to be held accountable.

My assumption is that the tracking device Jen is talking about isn't a passkey, but a mobile phone. If you have to take your mobile phone to the library to log in to a website, say, then anyone who knows where your phone is knows you went to the library.

Haunted Loaf @bread.social · 12/08/2026
You might be happy to know for a website operator to know you were at a library, but doesn't mean you want the mobile network operator, Google, the government, and other people who aren't that website operator to know.
110
Haunted Loaf @bread.social · 12/08/2026
I don't have any passkeys on my mobile: I keep them in my browser. You can also buy USB security keys which hold passkeys - and do nothing else - if you need to login on multiple computers. They're expensive, unfortunately ($30+), but they could be dirt cheap if everyone used them.
100
Haunted Loaf @bread.social · 12/08/2026
They shouldn't, but that's not where we're at. Web site and browser developers have collectively failed to implement security properly for decades. Passkeys are a good start to correcting their failure, but unfortunately it does now mean you need to change.

Ironically, if you look at the other 7 people, 5 of them have published many of the kinds of papers the Telegraph would be terribly upset about - about decolonialism, social justice, queerness - except they were white when doing it, so they don't care. For now.

Haunted Loaf @bread.social · 10/08/2026
So of the 9 people who unanimously approved his appointment, (at least) 2 of them had previously noticed that racism exists. Surely the Telegraph will not deny that racism exists, in a racist way?

"AIUK remains fully committed to defending the human rights, dignity, and equality of all marginalised groups, including women, girls, and members of the trans community." Weird to list them as though there's no overlap between trans people and women and girls. Probably just an accident.
