terminal social media is an infectious disease that causes people to believe discourse has ever created anything of value at any point, for anyone, ever.

i swear some authors learn adversity can be a source of intrigue and growth for characters and just forget literally everything else. your characters getting kicked in the teeth and and losing every single chapter is not any less boring than constant victory, frankly its often moreso

sometimes litrpgs are really funny. why are you recreating the worst parts of mid rpgs. why are there five redundant annoying stats. why are there “mild stat increase” perks, aka literally the worst kind of perk ever invented. genuinely baffling

i get it, its a tempting thought, its just also fundamentally philosophically dysfunctional. at most blocklists with specific actionable inputs, "following over 10k", "following jesse s*ngal" can be functional, but even then keep an eye on those running them when you can.

abhuman @braindamagedcat.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
don't trust other people to think for you and do your blocking yourself, it is very easy and very satisfying on this website. even back on twitter with much weaker lists every single one was corrupt to some degree.

abhuman @braindamagedcat.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
not that its the fault of the people falsely being put on them mind, but it kinda absolutely is the fault of people following and putting faith in these things. don't hand that kind of power to unaccountable randos with a superiority and/or savior complex, it was never going to end well.

abhuman @braindamagedcat.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
the entire history of this site until it dies is just going to be people being too intellectually incurious to realize that blocklists curated by other people are a dogshit idea, being shocked when another one turns out to be dogshit, and then going right back to step one huh.

writing PSA, goodwill is an expendable resource, and writing pure nonsensical narrative convenience spends it, exponentially so if you do repetitively without breaks in major plot beats. if you write an interesting story with heart you can get away with a lot, but at least go for different tricks

the lack of philosophy education or real ethical interrogation is so incredibly annoying so very often. people engaging in abject moral farces with no relation to the characters actual life experiences, because they are thoughtlessly and carelessly reproducing corporate pseudo-morals ineptly.

gutlessness applied to good concepts can be so singularly frustrating. fascinating concepts kneecapped by mcu morality and tumblr therapy speak dialogue where a character killing a murderous genocidally oppressive raider is waffled and agonized over, pointlessly allowing them to continue

"Thank you for calling the law offices of Laure Laloi and Associates. We're sorry, but Miss Laloi is currently out of the office and isn't expected back until next week..." A bit more lawyery OC stuff ft. "corrupt" defense attorney Laure Laloi and "bitter archrival" ADA Anna Turney.
A NSFW illustration of two women having sex in an industrial loft-style bedroom. The woman, for lack of a better term, on top, is Laure Laloi, who has short side-shaved maroon-dyed hair, a tattoo on her arm with an axe that says "Ladykiller", along with a lacy tattoo around her torso. Laure is riding "that MF-ing thang" as the kids say these days. Anna Turney, pictured below, is the one with the "heavy hips wearing the strap", as was the style at the time. She has brown shoulder-length hair. She has one hand on Laure's back and another grabbing one (1) buttcheek. There are lipstick marks on both of them, and one on the wall somehow? Oh and Laure's got a buttplug because I don't know, she's a bit odd like that. Everyone likes different things after all. Sorry for being cheeky (delayed pun) with this description, I can't help it.

Anyway, the bed is up against a metal feature-wall that has been repurposed to be industrial chic. Further in the background, next to the bed there's a repurposed trunk as an end-table with two flexible lamps on it. Further back there is a box-fan (a suspect freebie 3D model painted over) on a small storage shelf in front of a window, and there are a few books and other items in the shelf. Along the wall there are two paintings that are parodies of various films. Finally, there is a large loft window letting in bright light, because I cannot help myself with backlighting every single time.

sometimes lack of pacing is just the most agonizing thing when dealing with a really good story. incredibly fun and fascinating stuff but wow i did not need that 20k words on demonstrating a new major character being an utterly unlikable piece of shit, yes ik its redemption arc, idgaf, be succint

i don't care if its realistic that everyone is too pathetic to actually do anything lasting about sexpests and slavers, if you want to luridly use them as a narrative element in your fiction, you don't get to be a fucking coward if you want your story to be worth reading.
000
abhuman @braindamagedcat.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
its so frustrating when an interesting book concept falls apart into narrative cowardliness and laziness. reaching for every dull half-baked trope & ill-considered standard, leaning on shockjock sexpest badguys while having no decency or conviction in depicting them & being too cowardly to end them

We need to prosecute white collar crime in the US with utter ruthlessness and zeal. One of the reasons we’re here (pick the “here” hellscape you prefer) is because we not only socially but legally accepted elite impunity.

21 chapters before anything meaningful or anything besides internal monologue, and before anything changes from the status quo established in chapter one initial paragraphs, despite ample motive and means. the pacing is so incredibly, remarkably, uniquely bad its almost an artform itself.

like please, if you have a basic, key, emotionally invested goal in your story, which you introduce as one or two steps away from the very start, fucking conclude it in book one. constantly inventing delays to push it to book four doesnt make it clever, it makes ppl want to stop reading

abhuman @braindamagedcat.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
much as i love reading indie fiction, if there was one lesson i could en masse force ppl to internalize it would be to not default to wasting your readers fuckin time. half a dozen intermission chapters after cliffhangers or constantly inventing new reasons to delay a close goal are mind-numbing.

the problem with reading a bunch of books in a row is you start to notice the author is a one trick pony. its all very well and good the first time a character charges ahead, fucks up like an idiot, and barely scrapes through while making no real progress but after the fifth time its fucking boring
010
abhuman @braindamagedcat.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
sometimes i feel like theres been an overcorrection to “emotional realism” in a lot of recent sci-fi/fantasy stuff ive happened upon. like yes i get its realistic for a person to be utterly useless in the face of danger constantly but it makes for incredibly unpleasant reads, esp when action heavy
