This is such a weird, bad choice. Steam is already great at serving popular games everywhere on the store. This one place is a huge point of exposure around launch for smaller (but still successfully marketed) releases. There's a steam forum linked, so please go leave a comment with some feedback.

This is a very 90s main mechanic. I mean that EXTREMELY positively. The 90s/00s had these games where the main mechanic/concept just made me ask "why?" but then gave me so much fun that I forgot the question entirely. It's kinda like the feeling of reading Douglas Adams
