Leo P. This is a star-forming dwarf galaxy, located about 5 million light years away from us (blue stars on the bottom-right side of the image). 🔭 🧪

The image from Webb’s NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) combines infrared light at wavelengths of 0.9 microns (represented in blue), 1.5 microns (green), and 2.77 microns (red). The stars in Leo P appear blue in comparison to the background galaxies for several reasons. Young, massive stars that are common in star-forming galaxies are predominantly blue. Leo P also is extremely lacking in elements heavier than hydrogen and helium, and the resulting “metal-poor” stars tend to be bluer than Sun-like stars. A bubble-like structure at bottom center is a region of ionized hydrogen surrounding a hot, massive O-type star.

I was thinking about the Nakamichi Dragon tape deck that my bougie uncle bought in the mid 80s. It flipped the cassette over instead of flipping the drive mechanism. That way the heads were fixed and not subject to misalignment like other auto-reverse mechanisms. It would cost $6k in today's $

Bit of a panic situation at work today, our venerable old L-Acoustics dV-DOSC PA blew 6 compression drivers, three in each array. Coils blown, open circuit! We found some replacements and will be swapping them out tomorrow, but they may be the last as the company is liquidating spares for this model

Today in random stuff from my collection. (Best I could do to reduce glare from the frame.) I was so happy when this poster came out to accompany the release of the series on DVD. Loved that show when I was little, long before I even read comics. And art by @jerryordway.bsky.social, who I also love.

A poster for the Shazam! tv show from the 1970s. It shows the cast, Jason Bostwick as Captain Marvel, tv’s Michael Gray as Billy Batson, and Les Tremayne as Mentor. Plus, the camper they drove around in and the faces of the ancient Gods from which he derives his powers.

When a Sun-like star reaches the end of its life, it sheds its outer layers of gas and dust, leaving behind a hot, dense white dwarf. The Helix Nebula, located 650 light-years away and spanning 2.5 light-years, is a stunning example of this process.
