The ICRC now invokes its work in 1960s S-Africa as part of the Global IHL initiative (see below), in which S-Africa plays an important role, to win trust across the Global South at a time when Western conduct – in Gaza, Iran, etc. – has raised critical questions about its claims to IHL leadership.
