Heres one for the #Driftwood lovers! Love the contrast of wood inside and out✨️🧡🩶🤎✨️ "Some of your most powerful intentions are born in your moments of greatest contrast" - Michael Thomas Sunnarborg #scape #eastcoastkin #photography #nature #islandlife #driftwood #shoreline #contrast #pacificocean
Driftwood logs lying on the beach, grayed by years of sun and surf. One log in the foreground has a chunk taken out of it, exposing a deep sienna tone to the inner wood. Beautiful contrast

Thanks Bee. This has really bummed me out and put me in a bit of a funk. Other then my trees curating these feeds gave me something positive I could do even in my rough days, definitely feels like there’s a big hole now. Guess it’s a push to find something else, yet that in itself is a struggle 😞

An old tree, the lower part still standing. But it has also been carved out from the inside, probably by ants or other small forest life forms. #Hiking #Yesterday #Trails #HikingTrails
The part of the tree which is still standing. It’s completely hollow from the bottom to the top. A yellow diamond shaped hiking trail sign is attached to it.There are holes at the bottom making way to the inside.Halfway up, just about the hiking trail sign, there’s another opening. At the top, decay has already done huge damage.

We met some cool trees today
A tree silhouetted by the sun overhead. A stone wall runs from the lower left of the picture to the tree in the center. Across an open field, the ocean can be seen in the distance. Looking up into the branches of a venerable old tree.

Some much crap windy weather for 4 days i was forced to do a big tidy up of my work and display area. Been putting it off for months but with not much else I should be doing with #Bonsai so tidy is what it came down to. The European oak is down good spring stuff. 🌱🇳🇿

By now we’ve woken up, kind of, so good morning everyone and happy Sunday! Here’s one of nature’s little wonders I saw in the Bonsai Garden last Sunday. The autumn colors of the Japanese Maple tree are just stunning. #Stunday #ColorADay #OrangeSun #PhotographersOfBluesky #ArtYear #EastCoastKin
This photo captures a Japanese maple bonsai displaying a stunning array of autumn colours. The tree’s delicately shaped, star-like leaves form a dense, elegant canopy that transitions from vibrant green at the lower branches to warm golden tones and finally to fiery shades of orange, scarlet, and deep red at the top. The fine, intricate foliage provides a sense of texture and depth, while the small turquoise bonsai pot anchors the display on a weathered wooden bench. Behind the tree, the simple vertical lines of a reed fence create a calm, natural backdrop that draws attention to the intense colours and refined structure of the maple. This beautiful image embodies the seasonal transformation and serene artistry typical of bonsai cultivation.

Among them was a remarkable white pine, already over 350 years old, that had been lovingly tended by generations of the Yamaki family. Unknown to the American caretakers at the time, this tree had survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, protected by the walls of the Yamaki home just two miles from ground zero.

The tree was placed in the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., where it quietly stood as a symbol of resilience and artistry. For 25 years, its extraordinary history remained hidden, until 2001, when two brothers from Japan visited the museum. They recognized the tree and shared its story, revealing that it had belonged to their grandfather, bonsai master Masaru Yamaki."

Rai San'yo_ was the headmaster of a Confucian academy in Kyoto in the early nineteenth century. In true literati fashion, he began painting purely for personal enjoyment. While he came into contact with many paintings from China, he developed a distinctive style of his own characterized by a bold use of the brush within rather orthodox compositions. In the inscription on this painting, San'yo_ clearly identifies himself with the literati tradition:In painting there is a difference between those of high spirit and those who seek to impress. If painting becomes fine and delicate, it will be narrow and limited. My ink-play should not be laborious. Should it ever become so, I will throw it away.
