I will be speaking at dev2next in October about initiating process improvement as a individual contributor. I am really looking forward to this one, both the talk and the conference!

Coding agents reduce software development to a simple matter of: * specifying requirements * verifying correctness and quality * maintaining and operating software you didn't write As we all know, those have always been the easiest, most well-understood parts of the craft, so everything is fine!

Ah, I love that after more than 50 years of filesystems allowing spaces in file names the shell languages still have problems with quoting. IMHO, mandatory quoting as a type signifier for path components so that spaces, globbing and whatever else don't confuse the shell is the only reasonable […]

Why is the mechanical design of household appliances so unbelievably bad? Every appliance I own seems unfit for purpose; from a clothes dryer that has impossible to clean lint trap to my refrigerator that has a dust pre-filter that is supposed to be cleaned every three months behind a difficult […]

I love a book that sends my mind wandering; even when I have reread the same section a couple of times to get through it without being led astray by musings. Is the opposite of boredom; rather an excess of ideas, a surfeit of imagery, or a bounty of allusion that does it. More like synaesthesia […]

One of my fundamental evaluations for a "good" build tool is this: The source contains a tool that is built and then used to transform ~100 source files to another form as part of the build for inclusion in the final result. The ease with which the tool allows this; or can't do proper "needs […]

Yes I am cranky about #homebrew dropping tier 1support for #Intel before #MacOS 27 has even shipped. I am also cranky about #Java 28 dropping support as well. What's the damn rush? I had assumed that Intel hardware still would have full support until some time in 2027. #GetOffMyLawn
