When 20-year-old Koutarou, a young gentleman from the industrial hub of England, is invited to work on the estate of Mr. Shin Akaashi, one of the richest men in the country, he does not expect to fall in love with his employer's son, especially after finding him so unpleasant during their first interaction at a local ball.

When 19-year-old Keiji returns to England after two years spent abroad, he thinks he has resigned himself to a life of suffocating civilities and public pressure as the heir to his family's massive fortune. But his father has something else in mind for their future, and Keiji finds himself immediately drawn to the carefree young man now living in his house.

Keiji and Koutarou experience a short, intense summer romance that they know is doomed. But that knowledge doesn't hold them back.

“Come on,” Koutarou said, “let’s swim.

Keiji turned to look at him. “Swim?”

“Yes, swim. We’re at the river on a hot day.” Koutarou unlaced his boots and kicked them off with his stockings. He stood and pulled his white linen shirt out of his trousers and over his head.

Keiji stared. After months of longing, there he was. It would be so easy to reach out and touch. No one was around. He could pull Koutarou down on top of him and answer every question about his body his depraved mind had.

But he only sat, frozen on the ground.

“What’s wrong?" Koutarou frowned. "Don’t want to?”

Of course Keiji wanted to. He could be naked with Koutarou. Move his body in front of him, put everything he offered on display for Koutarou to decide if he wanted to take it or not. Keiji would lie on the grass or in the river itself and cling to Koutarou’s body while he went inside of him. Koutarou would promise to be gentle, because that was who he was, and Keiji would look at him and say, hurt me as much as you want.

“Do you want to swim with me?” Keiji’s voice was small, but there was a challenge in his gaze. And the way Koutarou closed his eyes and squeezed his face like he was in pain told Keiji he also understood that they weren’t really talking about swimming.

“No…” The word came out as a long sigh pulled from his gut. “You’re right. We should get back.”

Without waiting for Keiji’s response, he bent and gathered his discarded clothing. Keiji remained silent and still, staring at the ground while Koutarou dressed himself and walked back into the woods without a word.

When Keiji joined him by the horses, Koutarou passed him the reins with a smile. “Thank you for coming with me,” he said.

Keiji smiled back. He knew he should be disappointed. But Koutarou was a poor liar.

"This is what brought me here," Keiji says. "The contents of this box."

Keiji carefully lifts the lid and gently takes out a leather bound journal and a stack of neatly folded papers that look so aged that Koutarou can imagine them hung up behind museum glass more easily than seeing them on this very normal coffee table on a Tuesday afternoon.

"These belonged to my great-great uncle," Keiji explains, "my great-grandmother's brother. The journal is his. And the letters…"

Keiji fans the folded pages out in front of Koutarou to let him see them, and each one is marked with the same name on the front.

"That's…" Koutarou whispers, running a gentle finger over the characters.

"A family name. Your family name. Bokuto," Keiji says quietly. "All of the letters were written by his childhood friend, Bokuto Eijirou."

Koutarou looks up from the letters and into Keiji's serious eyes that have shifted midnight-dark.

"So, you came here looking for me?"

I suppose I should pack a bag to take to the hospital soon. . . Just in case I go into labor early.

Then a spasm of tightness seized his lower belly, causing him to gasp and search out the wall of the pool to hold onto.

It wasn't painful, really, just uncomfortable; a cinching, squeezing feeling that started to fade as he let out a long breath.

That wasn't an invitation, you know.

"Keiji?"

Kiyoomi had swum back up next to him, his sweet, honeycomb scent cloying overtop of the chemical tang of chlorine.

"Just a few false contractions, nothing to worry about. If you're really in week 28, Mr Skinny-Minnie, expect those to start any time now," Keiji huffed as the spasm eased slowly.

"How much does it hurt?" The other omega's dark eyes raced over him, like he wanted to help but was unsure how to.

"Oh, they pass pretty quickly," Keiji waved off. The last of the pressure had already faded. "It's more like a muscle spasm than actual pain pain— deep, and uncomfortable, but I don't think these are anything like the real thing."

Kiyoomi didn't look convinced.

"The first time I had one was in the middle of the night; but, my mother had warned me that she had a lot of false starts late in her pregnancy with me, so I was a bit more prepared. Kou nearly had a fit though— I'm lucky his phone was dead, he wanted to call an ambulance."

"Oh yay, another horrible side effect that can blind side me at random," Kiyoomi groaned. "Must be nice to have someone like that in your corner though. I'm pretty sure if I asked my mother anything about pregnancy, she would faint on the spot."

Have a little snippet of the bkak I've been working on for the 2026 BokuAka Exchange! Wonder what's got Bokuto so riled 👀 Excited to share this one with you all, I haven't posted anything in over a year 🎉 Thanks as always to @bokuakaevents.bsky.social for putting this together!! 💜💜💜

The first man who had shoved past everyone was grabbing Akaashi’s arm and physically pulling at him. For what reason, Bokuto couldn’t tell. Maybe for a picture, maybe to yell more questions at him. But it didn’t matter. They’d gone too far now. Nobody should be putting their hands on Akaashi.

Bokuto stepped towards them, put his hand in the center of the man’s chest, and pushed. “Hey!” he growled. “Back up.”

Like a splash of cool water, the man’s entire demeanor withered. “I-I was just…” he sputtered.

“I don’t care,” Bokuto barked back. “You keep your hands off him!”

A sudden hush rippled through the crowd. All eyes, which had been on Bokuto and Akaashi to begin with, seemed to sharpen their gaze in shock. A nagging, sensible part of his brain told him that he’d just made a horrible mistake, and someone was going to spin this into an assault. But none of that mattered in this moment. Someone had grabbed Akaashi. Put their hands on him. Bokuto would not allow that.
