Good morning, Helen’s #BirdOfTheDay, I’m going with birds snacking on #NaturalSeeds straight from the plant, crop, or tree - no cheating with feeders please! I so wanted to cheat with a Jay who “ randomly” found some seed that had fallen out of a pocket but no. 😂 #birds #photography #ECK
A female House Sparrow perched among the branches of a flowering bush, holding a small seed from the plant in her beak. Her warm brown plumage and subtle markings are clearly visible in the sunlight, with fresh green leaves and pale dried flower heads surrounding her against a softly blurred green background.

🪶 Morning, Happy Wednesday Everyone! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Woodland; any bird in a forest setting Alt. is #Yellow; on the bird or in the scene - Great Spotted Woodpecker on an Oak - European Goldfinch on a bench #birds #ECK #birdphotography #naturephotography #WoodpeckerWednesday
A male Great Spotted Woodpecker perched on a small oak trunk in the forest. The bird is perched on a vertical branch which travels from the bottom of the frame, centre right, up towards the right hand corner of the shot. Its right side of its body can be seen. Its upper parts are black, with white patches at the sides of the head, side of the neck and top of the wings. It has a long, sharp bill and a red patch at the back of the neck. The underbelly is white.
There are some out of focus leaves in the foreground, giving a hazy effect on the shot and the background is out of focus green leaves with a few patches of light to the right. A European Goldfinch perched on the back of a park bench in the bright sunshine. The bird is right of centre of the shot, perched on the top plank of the bench, which can only partially be seen, travelling from bottom centre to almost the centre of the right hand side of the shot.
The bird is in side profile, facing left with its left side showing. Its head is turned, and tilted, towards the camera slightly.
The bird has a bright red face mask around its bill, forehead and eyes. Its cheeks and side of head are white with a black cap and neck. It’s back, chest and sides are a soft brown, turning to white underneath. Its wings are black with a bright yellow stripe.
The sun is shining in from the right and highlighting all the visible parts of the bird. The background is out of focus green grass.

The bird has a bright yellow bill and eye ring, the rest of its plumage is jet black, with a slight greying on the flight feathers.

Gary Green Woodpecker was surprised to see the paparazzi walk round the corner, with their lenses primed and ready to take his photo before he'd brushed his plumage.
So he shouted at them to wait until he was ready, but those damned paparazzi never listen because that doesn't get them their stories.
So Gary didn't hang around long because he doesn't like those who don't listen to him, sorry but not sorry Gary 😂

Captured at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.Gary & Gloria Goosander were drifting past each other like ships in the night, and that was because Gary didn't listen to Gloria about what she wanted from the beauty parlour.
Meaning Gary came home with all the wrong beauty products that Gloria didn't ask for, and what made it worse was Gary turned and said "well you should have gone yourself" which really annoyed Gloria.
I'm sure most males have been there Gary, and she will get over it eventually.

Captured at Yarrow Valley Country Park.Gary Goldcrest was flirting from branch to branch looking for a mate, but he wasn't having much luck.
And he tried blaming that on the paparazzi following him around, but the paparazzi weren't having none of that and told him to look in the mirror.
But not knowing why Gary said "have you", to which they said "yes" and we don't have food all down us, which makes you look like a tramp, Gary.... with a smile on their face.

Captured at Yarrow Valley Country Park.Sammy Short Eared Owl was flying over the fields on the prowl for food, while also watching out for those sneaky paparazzi.
Which he hadn't spotted already snapping away as he banked to his left, in the direction where he spotted some movement in the low cut grass in the field beside the road.
Sadly for Sammy it wasn't something he could eat as it was some rubbish moving in the grass due to the moderate winds, which made Sammy and the paparazzi angry because people should take their rubbish home with them or at least bin it.

Captured up in the North East.

Hello 👋 I adore Owls so today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #AwesomeOwls 😊🦉 Any owl from the two owl families. Here's a gorgeous Long-eared owl that I was fortunate enough to see 🤎 📷 🪶 Alt: #BirdNameG any bird whose common name starts with the letter G! Happy Thursday 🕊️ #Nature #Photography #ECK
A photograph showing a long-eared owl that is perched at an angle on a textured tree branch, facing right against a blurred green background. The owl features a prominent facial disc with a white, vertical stripe between its vivid orange eyes, a black beak, and long, dark ear tufts which are flattened against its head. Its plumage is a dense mix of brown, black, grey, and tan feathers, with a warm rufous coloration visible on its chest. The owl's talons are gripped firmly onto the rough bark of the vertical branch, and its lower wings are partially extended downward, showing a barred pattern of tan and dark brown bands. The owl had been hunting in the adjacent fields just before dusk and its feathers underneath are slightly wet. His gaze is fixed intently in to the distance ready to launch in flight again.

A vibrant European Greenfinch perched on a slender, budding branch, facing right. Its plumage is a striking mix of olive-green, yellow and soft grey, with bright yellow flashes along the folded wings and tail. The bird’s pale, conical bill and dark, glossy eye are clearly visible, while fine feather detail gives its head and body a soft, textured appearance. The dark, softly blurred background provides strong contrast, making the Greenfinch stand out beautifully.

Good morning folks. @atlanticbirding.bsky.social is hosting #BirdOfTheDay and his themes are #BirdInABush, any bird in a hedge/bush. The Alt theme is #FlyingHigh, any bird flying high in the sky. #birds #naturephotography #ECK #CanonR5mkii #photography #ukbirding #birdphotography #BirdLife
Gary Grey Heron standing in the bush looking up to see what's making a lot of noise, but it was only Freddie Fulmar with his siren blaring away as he was chasing Percy Puffin for speeding.
Gary wasn't happy about all the noise because it woke him up from his afternoon nap, and he knew that was his sleep over with and he hates waking up before his alarm goes off.
The paparazzi did tell him to grow up which made him even angrier, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Captured at WWT London Wetlands.Rachel Raven was surveying her patch from high in the bush, but there wasn't much around apart from the stalker with a camera.
When she heard the paparazzi shout up, "who are you calling a stalker", and her reply was "well you are hiding in a bush following me", and there wasn't anything the paparazzi could reply with.
The moral of the story is don't annoy the females 😂

Captured at WWT London Wetlands.Kamala Kestrel was out looking for food for her hungry brood, when she spotted some of the Little Terns chicks moving around below her. This is something the young ones were told not to do as it's very dangerous for them, but sadly for the little chicks they didn't stand a chance when Kamala swooped down and grabbed one of them while shouting "I'll be back". This was something she picked up from watching her favourite film series "Terminator", even though she was nowhere near his size although she was as lethal.

Captured at Long Nanny Tern Colony.Rocky Red Kite was out on the prowl, although he wasn't having much luck when the paparazzi spotted him drifting on the thermals.
And every time he circled around, the smaller birds took off in fright then circled around before landing when the coast was clear.
But it wasn't long before Freddie Fulmar was on the scene to clear the scavengers away, making it much safer for the smaller birds to relax.

Captured at Summer Leys Nature Reserve.

A close-up portrait of a Eurasian Jay, showing its warm pinkish-brown plumage, pale streaked crown, strong black-and-grey bill and striking red-brown eye. The bird’s head is turned slightly upward, while a vivid blue-and-black barred patch on the folded wing catches the light, displaying beautiful iridescence that shifts in intensity with the angle. Fine feather detail is visible across the body, with a softly blurred green woodland background creating a natural setting.
