Hey #ElixirLang & #Ruby fam, I got laid off this last Friday and am looking for the next adventure! If anyone has any opportunities, feel free to reach out!

This has been the biggest issue I've run into. I agree with the value and simplicity of Phoenix LiveView, but the server round-trip adds jarring UX if there is any latency in the system.

Kyle @boe.codes · 23/02/2025
That's only for the "system-wide" outages. My project (and others, check their community forums) have been plagued by machines going rogue and other networking issues.

I so badly want Fly to be good. It just….isn’t. Doing any amount of scaling past their free tier immediately highlights all of the cut corners and cracks in their infrastructure.

Welp. Time for the weekly @fly.io outage. This is unacceptable. Going to be moving to @render.com asap.

Yeah I have been eyeballing it. Do they have multi-region deployments for Elixir apps?

Starting a new site with all the Phoenix configuration in place to serve multiple domains in the same app is now done with a single command. Plus some other new features in this release and bug fixes. 🎉

Wow @fly.io just can’t win. Honestly going to have to stop recommending them with all these outages and issues. Anyone have any good alternatives?

In this post, we’ll talk about some of the ways we’ve scaled individual Discord servers from tens of thousands of concurrent users to approaching two million concurrent users in the past few years.

Years ago on Twitter I had raised this as a very real possibility that DHH was continuing to devolve and would likely eventually turn into a right-wing reactionary. At the time it was dismissed as hyperbole, that the community was wrong for disinviting him from RailsConf. It was the right call.

Hot take: the #ElixirLang crew is long gone. I’d take Phoenix 100% of the time nowadays for starting anything new (or even a re-write).

PhoenixTest v.0.5.0 is out! 🥳 Lots of changes. My favorite: experimental assertion `timeout` option that waits for async operations (and handles redirects). Less visible work (but sooo valuable) -- work to allow for a playwright driver. 🤯 (huge thanks to @ftes.de 🙌) 👉 hexdocs.pm/phoenix_test...

The short answer is I didn’t know how to properly pass in the slot. I initially tried the single apply, but I didn’t find a way to handle the named slot.

I am both immensely proud and deeply ashamed of this #ElixirLang Phoenix LiveView hackery I built to do dynamic functional component calls.
def component (assigns) do
Phoenix.LiveView.TagEngine.component
&apply(assigns.module, assigns.function, [&1]),
assigns,
{_ENV_.module, _ENV_.function, _ENV_.file, _ENV_.line}
)
end<.component
module={@dynamic_module} function={@fn_name_as_atoms}
other="assigns"

Stuff in the named slot

This thread is a gold mine. It also sums up the #ElixirLang ecosystem up until this point IMO. Lots of knowledge silos and fragmented solutions. Which makes it that much more exciting to see all of the sharing here on Bluesky. It makes a community greater than the sum of its parts.

On a related note. 🤓 I got server-side certificate verification working for an EVM compatible chain talking to an #ElixirLang backend. Used some #Erlang :binary slicing and dicing which was super fun. Now I can mathematically prove that a user is who they are claiming to be with just a signature!
