I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that you, like me, have a large pile (or digital equivalent) of books or articles you've been meaning to get around to reading, plus maybe a long queue of podcast episodes to which you'd love to listen, if only you had the time.

Algorithms killed the spectrum of emotional valences. Everything now is set to 10. Bring back the eyeroll, the exasperated sigh, the hand wave, the shoulder shrug. Some stuff is just mildly annoying or blandly dumb. You don’t need to blow every emotional outburst on the mundane.

But it also handles related but miscellaneous categories of other things: tickets for events, reward cards, membership cards, your library card… really, anything with a number, a scannable code, or a connection to payment winds up there. Despite all that, Wallet has been deficient: you couldn’t […]

What's your sign?
Photo of a construction sign with a slew of the standard warning elements such as "construction site, danger, authorized personnel only, deep excavation, demolition in progress, workers overhead, explosive powered tool in use", lots of yellow triangle caution signals, "get serious about workplace health and safety" with the required PPE that must be worn on site, and circled in the bottom left corner in red letters: "if there's a HUGE fuckup, call Todd, 6751-1827". Someone has helpfully circled that on the image so people don't miss it in the visual chaos
