There was a long pause after the Oval Office pleasantries and I placed my thumb on the screen to scroll away from this terribly disappointing and totall predictable scene. Something kept me watching though. The president had a certain look. I recall a closed-mouth smile and what seemed to be head nods to someone out of frame. Then the president stood up and said, “Now that we have you here, we’d like to remind you of our promise to the American people. I told them I would hold accountable those who had committed crimes against the nation, and that’s exactly what I intend to do.”
She nodded again and three secret service agents, one for each oligarch, strutted into frame and asked the men to stand. They did as they were told, and the secret service guys gently handcuffed them. “That promise starts today,” the president said. She wasn’t smiling anymore. “Right now.”
I dropped my beer. It fell to the floor and the glass splintered into a hundred pieces. Everyone looked up from their phones and I jumped off my barstool and without even thinking shouted for the bartender to turn on the news. She did, and there for everyone to see were three of the most powerful men alive being frogmarched out of the Oval Office. They didn’t look angry as much as they looked bewildered, as if they were unsure whether this was really happening. You could see how stunned they were despite all the fucked-up facial surgeries that kept them frozen in time.
