The June 2026 pay deal for resident doctors is starting to come into effect - on top of the DDRB uplift, the nodal point uplifts in the deal will apply from this month, meaning most resident doctors should also receive a lump sum of back pay. (1/2)

Most resident doctors in England should see a lump sum of back pay in their payslip this month. Check it now.” An illustration of a payslip is shown with a magnifying glass containing a large question mark, alongside a right-pointing arrow icon. The header reads “Resident doctors in England”.Graphic for resident doctors in England on a bright blue background. Text reads: “Use the BMA Pay checker tool when you receive your September payslip. It was easy to use, and with BMA support, I was reimbursed in full. I strongly encourage all doctors to make use of it!” The quote is attributed to “Laura, resident doctor”. “We’ve had pledges from the Government that they will fix the ‘corridor care’ crisis in our hospitals, and research like this shows the urgency needed to make this happen, illustrating the devastating impact on patients each day it is allowed to continue.” Dr Den Langhor responds to new research.

The Government is consulting on stronger regulations, but industry is lobbying against the measures.

We need doctors to show support for the new powers. Respond to the consultation today.

No doctor should be left in limbo. For too long, many locally employed doctors have been working on fixed-term contracts with little certainty about their future. Now, following the June 2026 deal, permanent contracts will become the default for locally employed doctors.

GP surgeries are disappearing at an alarming rate. With fewer of them, patients can face longer waits, more pressure on local services and greater difficulty seeing a doctor who knows them. With GPs facing an unmanageable workload. We can't afford to lose any more.

At a recent Court of Appeal hearing, the GMC continued to argue that it doesn't have a duty of care to doctors. This comes after an NHS doctor tragically took his own life within hours of receiving a letter from the regulator. Join our campaign to reform the GMC: www.bma.org.uk/GMCreform
Graphic with the headline: “The GMC says it has no duty of care to doctors”.
