I mean, I think any commerical platform will see a ton of cancellations but they can always just build it into a government website, unfortunately.

I understand being a little tipsy and thinking you could get away with a little stealthy self-love under a blanket or something (I don't endorse it). I don't understand stripping everything below the waist to go all out, just, logistically. Must not have been a full flight!

Listen, I want people to be paid a fair wage but also the rates that hotels charge you to rent a projector and a screen for a day are OUTRAGEOUS

Today SABR launched an incredible new book and companion website on Baseball at Manzanar: How We Played the Game, 1942-1945. It’s the story of 120,000 Japanese Americans who were removed from their homes after Pearl Harbor and forced to live at remote incarceration camps: sabr.org/baseball-at-...

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, holding a red ball labeled "A SILLY MEME".
The second panel shows Sarah taking the ball and going through a door labeled "GROUP CHAT".
The third panel shows a group of women sitting together and consoling one woman in the center. The woman in the center is saying "...And that's how it happened. It's been the worst day of my life."
The fourth panel shows Sarah standing in the doorway behind them awkwardly holding the red ball.

The last time I interviewed for a job they scheduled it for like 4 hours and I talked to multiple people (I was also offered water during the course of it). Plenty of job interviews are multi-hour affairs. It's okay to have a bottle of water with you!

I haven't been since I was a wee lass but I remember being very freaked out by it. I do think there is something ghoulish about the way some people treat the trials as entertainment that ignores the very real suffering of the victims, but I don't think that's his objection

Colonoscopy - scope up the rectum, involves cleaning out your bowels, usually also drugs for the procedure Colposcopy - close examination of the vagina & cervix under bright lights, often results in a biopsy of the cervix or nearby tissue, often without any drugs at all (the point of the OP)

My Rage Against the Machine/Les Mis mashup is complete. This is my interpretation of the quilt guild’s summer challenge “quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current ‘democracy’” all hand stitched.
Quilt hanging on a card catalog. Neutral background with navy cursive appliqué “Do you hear thr people sing?” The background is embroidered in red starting light and getting bolder the lyrics to “killing in the name” the quilting effect is a focused sunburst from the center.

The first thing that comes to mind is the washing machine - doing laundry by hand took DAYS. But there is a trend in history where when the tools make the work easier, the expectations for the amount of work go up.

Yeah, but almost all of their teachers came functionally through the same teaching academy (Harper Hall) so there are some elements reinforcing continuity! Also they functionally have teleportation which reduces some isolation.

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

O Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years
2023
satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

Since we are talking about accents/dialects, I think one challenge I have with those quizzes sometimes is that if I see the word written out I will say "of course those are different" and I have to say them over and over. And possibly I say things differntly when reading aloud than when speaking
010
Blushing Flower @blushingflower.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
I think what's interesting is how you can have an accent that isn't necessarily your dialect! Like, to me, there is a difference between what words you say and HOW you say them (e.g. I say "y'all" but I don't have a southern accent; I might pick up "ink pen" but I don't have a pin/pen merge)

Blushing Flower @blushingflower.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Right, there's "I don't have a word for this" and there's "I didn't grow up with a word for this but I adopted someone's at a certain point" and those can definitely skew an attempt to pin you down, linguistically!

Blushing Flower @blushingflower.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
yeah - I don't have that immigrant experience influence but I definitely had a few questions where the thing was "the people I grew up around say it one way but I was expressly taught not to say it that way/taught that that way was 'wrong'"

Mine was saying "New York" for a while but it settled on Delaware (I grew up in upstate NY but live in Maryland, so, compromise). There were a few words where my answer varies but that wasn't a choice. But I got Baltimore and DC as two of my closest cities, which seems very correct.

right, something that searches your personal back catalog to find the last time you preached on that topic, what you said, who you cited, etc. would be fine, that's just a fancy index and might make you better.

Just re-organized some recently moved bookshelves, please enjoy this shelf i call the Trojan War Expanded Universe
A dark wood bookshelf on it are copies of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, The Oresteia, collected plays by Euripides and Sophocles, and the Aeniad. Most are leather bound; there are multiple translations of the Homer and the Virgil

I think the thing about Dolly that we all respond to is that she knew her own worth, but she didn't think she was better than anyone (at least not publicly). She believed us all, herself included, to be beloved children of her God and she acted accordingly.

Hello friends - I would like some recommendations for a good multi-season show that I can use as background viewing for data entry or similar tasks. Ideally it would be in English and have minimal on-screen text that I need to read. I have most of the streaming services and I work from home.

We have a plug-in hybrid and a full EV so we got a charger installed and have it set to meter to when rates are lowest, but T is also on a quest to get solar and/or geothermal on our property (he has really leaned into "power usage" as his middle-aged special interest). We have a lot of trees tho
