A dark wood bookshelf on it are copies of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, The Oresteia, collected plays by Euripides and Sophocles, and the Aeniad. Most are leather bound; there are multiple translations of the Homer and the Virgil

Went to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this AM to do some birdwatching; the flowers were also out in full force. Used a different camera for the birds, but we saw egrets, a night heron, a bald eagle, and lots of red-winged blackbirds.

And last, but definitely not least, the Swamp Rose Mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos). I disturbed a bee when I took these pics. These are one of my favorite natives. As the name implies, they really like wet places, so we planted them downslope in our corner lot, but it's been very dry this year.

I grew this partridge pea (Chamaecrista fasciculat) from seed! I love the shape of the leaves. There are two - one in a planter box that I just dumped a bunch of native seeds in to see what would happen, and one in the garden bed of our front yard.

Also blooming is the mountain mint (Pycnanthemum), another Maryland native (I have a rule that if I plant it, it must be either native or a cultivated food plant for humans)

Currently blooming in my garden (Maryland, Zone 7b): Cup plant (Silphium perfoliatum). We got these maybe 2-3 years ago at the MD Sheep & Wool festival, they live next to our compost pile.

Today in business travel: a man designed this room

A hotel closet. At the bottom, a piece of furniture with a drawer and a room safe rises at least a third of the way to the bar, and 80% of the horizontal distance. A dress hangs in the scant space between the furniture and the edge of the closet, the skirt hanging lower than the top of the drawer.

Fluffy Frosted Orange Rolls from @kingarthurbaking.bsky.social I feel like Paddington Bear would appreciate these as they have a marmalade vibe.

Snow is not very deep but it has changed to sleet. Our neighborhood has not been plowed; we are clearing off the Subaru to see if it will make it up the hill (BFF is theoretically leaving on a train in an hour but...)

There is bacon in the oven and a pot of tea on the table and homemade bread sliced up for toast (French or otherwise). Sleet is falling and I am not looking forward to clearing it, but for now, it's peaceful.

We are slowly putting more native plants into various places in our yard. One spot is between our deck and the path to the hose spigot, which is currently a tangle of goldenrod (which we planted) and small white asters (which we didn't) and a hotspot for our pollinator friends. So peaceful to watch.

There are these great spiderwort clumps at church, so purple that my phone camera almost doesn't know what to do with them.
