Thinking about how Lament of Innocence has one of the funniest "guy falls down a bottomless pit and dies" screams in gaming, even though there's only 2 rooms in the entire game where you could even do that

Yeah, I was actually surprised by how much I was cool with the contents OF the story, but I wish it was structured better so there was at least little more room for everything outside of Leon & Rinaldo to be further developed.

I might be in the minority on this one, but this game is proving to me that Castlevania generally works better when it leans more into theatrics or the dramatic, rather than the more grounded, serious interpretations of late

Once again, I know people make fun of the "I'll kill you AND the night" line at the end of Lament of Innocence, but the scene playing off that line 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 genuinely has one of the hardest lines in all of Castlevania

Heh, that's the fun part! There's usually locked doors or blocked paths that require finding the keys somewhere else, so if you guessed on the wrong fork in the road? Time to take the long way back, buddy

The map doesn't showcase it that well, but nearly all of the castle areas are the same 1-2 rooms connected by the same hallways, all being constantly copy-pasted into a series of forks in the roads There isn't any actual variety in what the rooms are: only the enemies and doors inside them

The more I play this, the more convinced I am that whenever Koji Igarashi has to make a non-2D game, he becomes possessed by grey aliens who've existed in the 4th dimension for so long that they forgot what 3D spaces actually look like

Part of why I started Lament of Innocence was because the recent Belmont's Curse demo really annoyed me So finally discovering that Lament isn't 3D SotN, but is actually a pseudo-dungeon crawler with DMC1 gameplay & level design that looks like THIS has me feeling like I'm a Goddamn prank victim

Blue @bluestigma.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Yeah, SotN's original PS1 dub is funny, but it's got nothing that matches the (accidental) pinpoint perfection of this line's comedic timing

Started playing Lament of Innocence for the first time, and while I know there's one line at the end everybody pokes fun at, I've NEVER seen anyone mention how fucking funny the moment where a battle-hardened, holy knight of the crusades suddenly becomes a reasonable 21st century therapist is

Honestly, given how the day 1 backlash of MKW's $80 price tag led people to assume all Switch 2 games were $80, I'm shocked I never saw one person balk at Fortune's Weave being the only other $80 game on Switch 2 And I know not everybody did the Walmart trick, so I dunno what happened there

I've seen so many Nier Automata-styled action RPGs come out in the past 10 years that're "action games with RPG elements" that I honestly forgot action RPGs used to mean "RPG-ass RPGs with action gameplay" We lost the plot at some point, man

I'm real glad this post sold me on Xanadu Next, because it embodies all the subtleties that most action RPGs today have forgotten: tight character progression, gear that actually matters, fixed camera angles to emphasize scale, incredible pacing, & punchy sound design that ties it all together.

As punishment for his crimes, Sisyphus was made to endlessly roll a boulder up a steep hill in Tartarus. Hades enchanted the boulder into rolling away from Sisyphus before he reached the top, consigning Sisyphus to an eternity of useless efforts and unending frustration.

The big takeaway from this is that while Zero Mission is my favorite 2D Metroid, I'd gladly sacrifice it if that meant the Zero Suit never existed and we could get the superior Samus design back into the series

Since I can't stop making Metroid videos for some reason, why not jump on the Metroid opinion template that's been going around? Nothing really that surprising here, but I did throw some explanations in the alt text to explain the weird outlier picks here
Donzosscanlog's "About me: Metroid Edition" template, with the following fields filled to reflect my personal opinion

Favorite 2D Game: Zero Mission (I've replayed this a ton, but it's close with Dread and Super for me; the former has incredible movement & game feel, while the latter is essentially perfect)

Favorite Power Suit: Dread's Gravity Suit (this used to be the Dark Suit in Prime 2, but I think the Dread suit has finally surpassed it for me)

Favorite Zero Suit: Fusion Samus (ironically, I hate the Zero Suit and much prefer Samus's design towards the end of Fusion, rather than the skin-tight bodysuit with a high ponytail that grew so popular afterwards)

Favorite Prime: Prime 2 (Sky Temple Keys suck, but I love the emphasis on boss fights and more alien locales)

Most Underrated: Metroid 2 (no, AM2R & SR could never replace the series' most seminal title)

Favorite OST: Prime 1 (c'mon, it's nothing but series-defining bangers)

Favorite story: Fusion (Super & Dread are close yet again, but I feel Fusion's is the most fleshed-out)

Most overrated: Prime 3 (still a good game, but its gameplay is worse than Prime 1 & 2 in literally every way - unlike Fusion, it doesn't really compensate much for the more railroaded structure. )

Favorite upgrade: Speed Booster (I almost put flash shift, but shinespark chaining is a genius mechanic basically no other series has replicated)

Favorite Fan Game: Super Metroid X-Fusion (it's a very non-standard Metroid experience, but that's exactly why I love it: X-Fusion is very much not a "safe" game)

Favorite boss: Raven Beak (Quadraxis and Metroid Prime are close runner-ups, but Raven Beak kinda has it all)

Favorite music track: Ice Belt - Power Generator (This is a tentative pick, but it's easily my favorite track from Prime 4 and among the series' best; Phendrana Drifts, Torvus Bog, and Rundas's Boss Theme are close contenders. I can only hear Brinstar Red & Ridley's theme remixed so many times before rolling my eyes)

"What's wrong? Something caught your eye?" #CrossArt 🎨: @hakida.bsky.social
A drawing of Cross looking over her shoulder with a mischievous glint in her eyes as she walks forward. Her scarf is blowing back behind her, while her assets are in full view to the person behind her.

With the advent of fully autonomous robots and their subsequent integration into society, it was inevitable that the relationship between humans and accords would eventually lead to one feeling strong feelings for the other. Though the concept may seem absurd, it's a reality that Albrite industries had considered all throughout the creation of the accords. Not only did they view this as the logical conclusion of introducing fully autonomous machines to society, but they felt it would be their crowning achievement if their creations proved capable of such intense feelings towards others - especially humans.

As their creation is relatively recent, marriage between accords and humans has been a recurring topic as equal rights continue to be advocated and fought for them. That it's yet to be recognized has done little to stop either side from pursuing deeper relationships with the other.

In spite of Albrite Industries' clear wishes to bridge the gap between man and machine, none of the major frame manufacturers distribute frames that share full anatomical parity with humans... though, this has done little to stop independent third-parties from stepping in to meet such demand. Interestingly, while this parity isn't 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 supported by major manufacturers, the resulting sensations that accords have from use of these modifications seem to be the same as those of humans. It's unclear whether these sensations are a byproduct of their black boxes interfacing with the modifications, or if this functionality is already factored into their core design.

Interestingly, Albrite Industries hasn't targeted these third-parties or their modifications - at least none that still meet manufacturing safety regulations.

𝐗! 𝐗!! #CrossArt 🎨: @33dot.bsky.social
"No, not like the website!"

A drawing of Cross leaping into the air, throwing her arms together to form the shape of an X while she shouts aloud at somebody offscreen.

Did you know? The neural networks of robots like Cross weren't built using conventional programming languages. This was done partially out of concern towards creating fully autonomous, sentient machines in a world heavily dependent upon more centralized online networks that could directly interface with then-modern computer architecture. The most vocal about this concern on the original project team was something of a film buff. More than that, it was a necessity to create a stronger foundation from which these machines could spring from; existing architecture simply couldn't support the scope of the project in its current state.

Albrite Industries - the company responsible for this technological breakthrough - has come under fire in some circles for being highly protective of the codebase that's ushered in the age of man and machine. Though they've claimed it's purely for security purposes, some feel the maneuver is aggressively anti-competitive, giving Albrite Industries a monopoly on the market for such robots. Some have also speculated there are more malevolent intentions behind their refusal to distribute the codebase with other companies, though nothing concrete has ever come of this speculation.

Cross just really likes the letter X.

"Hey, tough guy! You just gonna stay down there or are ya getting up sometime in the next year?" 🎨: @amlogamer.bsky.social #CrossArt
A drawing of Cross resting on the ground, staring back at the viewer over her shoulder, playfully sticking her tongue back at them.

Following the successful breakthrough in robotic engineering that led to the Accords, Lyanna Light - chief engineer and COO of Albrite Industries - became something of an overnight success story. Once unknown in the mainstream eye, she quickly found herself something of "the face" of modern robotics. Though, she's quick to bemoan her newfound fame during interviews, feeling it pulls away from the achievements of her colleagues and creations. As she puts it, solely crediting her for the creation of the accords is akin to crediting the success of a child to their parent for birthing them.

Though Lyanna has enjoyed a great deal of success following the proliferation of the Accords, she sometimes speak of the process leading to their creation with a rather wistful tone. More specifically, two colleagues from her old university days seem to be a recurring subject of displeasure for her: Dr. Bryce Blackwell & Dr. Ashe Ravencroft.

Records show that the three were regular collaborators many a time ago - but over time, fundamental differences in their personal philosophies drove them apart. While Lyanna believed in a future where machines could live among humans as truly autonomous, sentient beings, Blackwell believed machines to be nothing more than tools to man. Their debates on the subject eventually grew so heated, that it was clear they couldn't reconcile their differences, and set out on their own paths.

While Lyanna often speaks of Bryce with regret, with her attempts to reach out to him rebuffed for years on end, she seldom speaks of Dr. Ravencroft in the same way. Among the scant few times she's been asked, her only comments about Dr. Ravencroft are that "history tells us there are many kinds of love: not all of them good."
