There were more men in a single documented gang rape at one school than the number of competitive trans athletes nationally. But I’ve heard a lot more politicians being asked about protecting girls from one of these scenarios and not another… I’ll let you guess which is which.

As COVID-19 cases continue to increase, it's important to know accurate information about COVID-19 in order to protect yourself and others! Get the facts about common myths, and take steps to protect yourself and others.

This is the best distillation of this argument I've seen. Agentic LLMs are only dangerous because people are consciously setting them to do dangerous things.

I get it. You hate cocaine. You think it destroys human capacities and the environment […] those objections are not sufficient. You need to engage with cocaine, understand both its appeal and its limitations, and integrate that awareness into your teaching. (Channeling my inner @gregpak.net)

It was in many ways a footnote to his massive legacy, but I will always remember being spellbound by Tim Curry's Darkness in the movie Legend (1985). For tiny me, just discovering a love of fantasy, his portrayal of magnificent, seductive evil was hypnotic. He was utterly iconic.
A closeup shot of Tim Curry as Darkness. Extensive prosthetic makeup makes him look like a devil, with grotesque red facial features and enormous black horns.

I mask because I remember when it became obvious that Covid was an airborne disease, that it regularly caused lasting damage to people who caught it, and that the vaccines had provided only temporary and partial protection. And I kept paying attention, so I noticed that none of that ever changed.

Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

That's the truly galling thing: there are so many people who know how to do these things well. It's eminently achievable. These corrupt idiot assholes are just so dedicated to cronyism and half-assing that they can't do anything well.

Don't want to speak ill of the dead, so getting this Mitch McConnell take out now. He saw Trump with complete clarity, as a danger to America, but protected him anyway. Perhaps more than anyone, he had the power to end Trumpism, but chose party over country. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/jan-6-and-...
And yet…McConnell refused to vote to convict. Seven of his colleagues did, and with McConnell’s leadership, more would have done so, potentially enough to get to the supermajority needed. With conviction, the Senate could have also taken the vote to block Trump from running again. Doing so would have ended Trump as a political power. McConnell was clearly considering this option. In an oral history interview at the time the House was impeaching Trump, McConnell said

But apparently you can impeach somebody after they leave office, and if that happens, there’s a second vote in the Senate, which only has to pass by a simple majority, that prevents that person from seeking office again. So he could not only be impeached, but also eliminated from the possibility of a comeback for this office. So it is significant.

In the end, McConnell protected Trump from punishment. It was not just the refusal to vote to convict. After a swift House impeachment, he pushed to delay the Senate trial. He opposed the Senate joining in a Congressional investigation of Jan 6. He endorsed Trump in 2024, although this matters little except to further diminish McConnell’s dignity, as it was clear by this point that the Republican Party was Trump’s and McConnell’s time of influence was at an end.

It's very strange to be in your 40s, and have your body do something you can't remember it ever doing — then look it up, and apparently it's perfectly normal? So, has this been going on the whole time, and for 40-odd years I've just missed it?

In other words, we’re know you’re tired of hearing about COVID-19. We’re tired of hearing about it too. But ignoring it does not help it to go away, so please continue to take protect your health.
We are all very tired of it (or at least I am), but pretending it’s gone is not going to help anyone stay healthy. Lots of us are tired of hearing about it (and honestly, we’re tired of talking about it), but we keep talking about it because we know how devastating it can be, we’ve met people whose lives are forever changed for the worse because of getting COVID-19, and lots of people who are now living with Long COVID say they wish they had known how bad it could be. So we’ll probably keep talking about it, because we want you to be healthy and happy, and even if you are tired of it (that’s fair),
we hope you take some steps to
protect yourself and others
so you can all live long, healthy lives.

Two things are true: First, there is actually an audience for in-depth, well-constructed writing, video, and audio. Second, it is almost entirely the advertising industry's fault that so much media is focused exclusively on how many eyeballs it can capture, and for how long.
