I'm not well-versed to be a discerning voice in media, but I still have to say: Rick Moranis in "Little Shop of Horror" feels like one of the greatest film performances in film history. Everyone is fantastic in the film, but I'm utterly captivated. Maybe that's just him. I love it.

A few minutes into the newest Strange New Worlds and the score is already in 5th gear. These series' composers never disappoint.

I have a lot of love for CGI (it's too often a whipping boy for people who don't understand VFX). But I do love the practical effects side too because you can get some wild photos like this one floating around for Star Trek's 60th (check out a great article on it at www.ilm.com/ilm-celebrat...)

Sometimes, when I turn my car's AC all the way up, I say out loud "divert power to life-support." Happy (belated) anniversary to one of the greatest pop-cultural forces of all time.

I have a smart watch now, which means that when I wake up each morning and think "I could have slept better" I have a watch that tells me "I wish you would have slept better."

There's a scene in the first ep. of "Lanterns" where a character says the Green Lantern's Oath mockingly, to get under Hal's skin and make him angry... and it made me angry too. Sympathetic nerd emotions are some of the most fun.

Bluejean Jedi @bluejeanjedi.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

It's fairly common to see the post: "I finally saw [famous movie] and it was great!" Though sometimes shocked at how someone missed this film, I then remember *I am getting old*; not everyone is my age. Or grew up in a VHS rental world. So, glad new generations are discovering great films!

010

Bluejean Jedi @bluejeanjedi.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

Ep. 1 of "Lanterns" definitely drew me in and has me excited for the next episode. They took a big swing with the ending (which I won't spoil) that's certainly going to be divisive among fans, but it sets the stakes in a way that has me eager to see where it goes.

I finally got to see Spider-Man and loved it! I've been out of the country, so the delay meant I got the villain spoiled, but still a great time. Good on everyone involved.

I saw The Odyssey today and was fortunate to get down to an IMAX. It was a lot of fun (in as much as a semi-tragedy can be fun). I can see why it wasn't for everyone, but it's definitely one people should give a shot instead of worrying about good/bad dichotomies that seems to follow movies today.

There are few nerdy things quite as cool as hearing someone recite the Green Lantern oath. Always fun for me.

While I've been in most every gaming ecosystem since the early 80s, the last few years I've leaned Xbox as my dominant platform. The last year(s) had convinced me to leave Xbox for someone more ethical to developers... hey Sony, you're not doing yourself any favors.

I'm confused when critics complain about a "glut of superhero movies." 600 films released in North America in 2025, including indies and limited releases. Four were superhero films. That's... A lot? In 2019 there were 10 superhero films... of nearly 800 films. Dramas made up most by volume.

I'm not a horror guy (that's my wife's domain) but I dip in when the genre overlaps with my own interests. So, with Mike Flanagain's "Clay Face" on the way, I've been watching his back catalog. I really liked "The Haunted of Hill House" and so now it's time to start "The Haunting of Bly Manor."

I would love to see far fewer discussions of Art based on money. It's film, sure, but also music or visual arts. A painting selling for $100,000 won't make it mean anything to me and a movie grossing under its budget doesn't mean I won't love it. There are far more fun discussions to be had.

Hey gang, Masters of the Universe ripped. I haven't returned to the property since I was a kid, but it was a lot of fun (and my kid loved it). While not as subversive as Barbie, it does have something to say about perceived masculinity. It knows when to be silly and when to be sincere. Fun time!

It's weird seeing the discourse on Backrooms and Circus success as anti franchise victories. They are franchises, just in a different way, bringing large fandoms with them. Instead of using their success to disparage other films, we should celebrate new voices and old. Art has room for all.

I don't mind if some people didn't like the new Mandalorian film (to each their own) but it's funny how many negative reviewers thought they were being clever when they wrote 'This is not the Way' in their headline. Yikes.
