making this sort of forest-for-the-trees sound-error is embarrassing when essentially that is your job as a composer, to over everything else curate some aesthetic. I would much rather fail than be bland, though!

it's like there are on the macro level a certain combination of harmonic qualities / timbres that create a sound that is internally consistent and satisfying and I have been stuck zoomed in messing around with little details and not even "getting the sound"

his name is lethargic. he's an IRC chatbot I wrote in 2011 and has been through IRC, skype, and is now on discord (in private servers with friends.) the algorithm has been unchanged since the beginning.

Lethargic’s algorithm

Lethargic’s primary response generator uses a bespoke algorithm that uses neither templates nor markov chains.
Take the user’s input:
Hello lethargic, how are you doing today?
Then pick a random message from a dataset of old IRC logs
brb throwing my computer against the wall
Then we interlace these two sentences, one word at a time, excluding ending punctuation:
Hello brb lethargic, throwing how my are computer you against doing the today wall

Lethargic's algorithm continued
Hello brb lethargic, throwing how my are computer you against doing the today wall
We replace “lethargic” with “me” and other pronouns so that they are inverted (like ELIZA)
Hello brb me, throwing how your are computer me against doing the today wall
Finally we pass this amalgamation into google translate a bunch of times through multiple languages to get our response:
Hey, wait a minute, how's your computer doing today after I hit my head against a wall?

my new emo chiptune album A PLACE TO KEEP YOU is out now!! <3 I'm taking my intricate, glitchy arrangements to new horizons! this is my first release with vocals - practicing songwriting has been hugely rewarding. this record blends live instrumentation with authentic chiptune (Gameboy, NES, SNES)!

the cover art for "A Place to Keep You" by Hunter Van Brocklin. it shows a small house with its porch light on, largely obscured by trees and shrubs except for the stairs leading up to it. a large apartment building can be seen behind it with several of its windows lit up. the artist and title text appear to the right in white with a big quotation mark next to them.

I'm finding it really hard to find good data for this but what I mean is: in 2016 a 1 TB ssd would have cost you $500 (expensive) 1 year ago in september a WD internal 1 TB ssd cost ~$45 (cheap) that same hard drive is $215 now

mario has 5 "sensor pixels" used for physics... his feet pixels check for solid ground to land on, of course. the side pixels check for walls, and eject him outward. the head pixel checks for bonking against a ceiling. if his head misses a block but his side enters it, he gets nudged sideways

The hardest part is the database stuff, you have to set up a new database and user for the forum, so you need to be ready to google the right SQL stuff to type in. If you want https on your forum that's also hard but that's webserver related and not phpbb related. Otherwise pretty simple

I just moved a couple days ago and I haven't set my server up yet! My forum is just phpbb, which is pretty easy to set up and customize.

New: the highly controversial AI music generator Suno was hacked. The hacker sent us Suno source code; it shows the company scraped YouTube Music, Deezer, and Genius. In all, Suno scraped *decades* worth of music from the internet. Obviously didn't pay artists www.404media.co/hack-reveals...
