If over 2 million people get to travel for free on public transport, why not make it free for the other 3.5 million people in the country? www.rte.ie/news/busines...

474 free travel passes seized over use by wrong person
Nearly 500 free travel passes were confiscated after they were found being used by somebody other than the person named on the card.

What a beautiful day for a cycle - we were so thrilled to be able to show our visitors @tomflood.bsky.social and @aliceferguson.bsky.social around Dublin to round off two great days of ideas and conversations

Already people play Tiktok and Instagram reels in public without thinking of the noise impact on others. When we add in voice assistants and other voice-first AI tools, is our future just going to be a cacophony of noise?

It would be good if they launched Premium Lite in Ireland.

Richard Bloomfield @bloomfield.co · 20/08/2026
YouTube Premium is going from €13.99 to €15.99 in Ireland. That's a lot of money to be paying just to avoid seeing ads. Netflix costs a similar amount and they have to fund the production of all their content.

The Pixel 11 Pro might be €200 more expensive than the standard Pixel 11, but once the launch trade-in bonus rebates are applied they end up being the same price.

I'm well used to people putting stuff on the doorstep, pushing the bell, and walking away before anyone comes to the door. But now they don't even bother pressing the bell.

Do couriers in Ireland not bother ringing the doorbell any more?

Apologies. Not 55 years. 64 years. Put those eclipse viewing glasses in a safe place!

Richard Bloomfield @bloomfield.co · 12/08/2026
The next eclipse event in Ireland is in 55 years time. Do you think people will still be eating breakfast cereal in the future?

Richard Bloomfield @bloomfield.co · 12/08/2026
We have survived the apoc-eclipse. Carry on.

Here in Ireland we're demonising people who ride electric scooters, while at the same time subsidising people who buy electric SUVs. I know which I'd rather encounter if I was in a collision.

Reform-led Kent County Council's amended its constitution. Every full meeting has to end with the national anthem. Nobody specified how much of it councillors actually had to sing. The Greens noticed. So when the first meeting closed, they sang all 6 verses. While Reform was already packing up. 😂

My Sky Ireland contract is due to end in just over a month, so I was all ready to cancel and move my broadband and TV to someone else. But then Sky sent me an email extending my new customer discounts for another 12 months. Is this common? I've never seen the like before.

I've seen this kind of thing on Ticketmaster, but never before on a shopping website. How many people are flooding onto the Boots website on a Friday evening?
Screenshot of the Boots website. Text reads:

Our website is full to the brim with shoppers & you have been temporarily placed in a virtual queue.

When I lived in Edinburgh many years ago, my company had a rule that everyone had to live within a 30-minute drive of the office. I think it was to minimise non attendance when the weather turned bad.

Do they specify how that 20 minutes is measured? Walking? Driving? Public Transport? If it's central London someone could spend over 20 minutes just finding somewhere to park their car!

Feeling a bit of Forest Fest FOMO today. We went for the last two years, but aren't there this year. So I'm trying to recreate some of the feeling by playing one of the highlights from last year, Hermitage Green.

More than half of my mobile phone screen time each day was on puzzle games. Sometimes it was several hours a day. I'd even be playing them while watching TV at night. That's not good behaviour, so this morning I deleted all of them.

Having enjoyed a full day of the world's best Rugby teams battering the hell out of each other, it's laughable when a socker ball player writhes on the floor because someone touched them with a glancing blow!
