First time I've seen something like this in a job posting! I'm all for negative consequences to using AI to script answers that you think the employer wants to hear, etc. Though it's interesting to see someone say it's fine, encouraged even, to use AI once you're hired. Idk Idk
AI Policy

We are excited to engage with candidates who can demonstrate their experience and skills through their own words and work, not through AI-generated content. We want to understand your genuine interest in the company and your unique perspectives, not simply AI-driven responses. We ask that you refrain from use of AI-generated content during the hiring process which includes phone screens, video interviews, tech screens, or other assessment stages except as otherwise indicated to you by the Recruiter.

For example: Using ChatGPT to generate scripted answers to application questions or during phone screens and video interviews is strongly discouraged and will result in not moving forward in the hiring process. However, the use of an AI design tool to enhance the design of a presentation deck is permitted.

The Recruiter will be able to provide additional guidance during the hiring process if needed. If hired at FreeWill, we do encourage the use of AI in your role to build upon or enhance your skill set.

"There has never been an independent publisher that champions literary fiction by men," is SO hard to believe. Not even bc that's the unwritten mission of some but bc he can't possibly be the first guy with this idea. He's probably just the first w/ the resources to get a Bookseller article abt it.
The focus of the publishing is in response to “a situation where stories by new male authors are often overlooked, with a perception that the male voice is problematic”, according to Cook. However, he emphasised that Conduit Books “doesn’t seek an adversarial stance”, but “to augment the incredible work of small presses everywhere, some of which are exclusively publishing work by women, with a space for male authors to flourish”.

Cook told The Bookseller: “There has never been an independent publisher that champions literary fiction by men. Which is not to say we won’t publish fiction by women in the future – but the emphasis at first will be on male authors.”He continued: “Over the past 15 years, the publishing landscape has changed dramatically. As a reaction to the occasionally toxic male-dominated literary scene of the ’80s, ’90s and noughties, literary fiction by women has come into its own. Most of the excitement and energy around new and adventurous fiction is around women authors – and this is only right as a timely corrective.”

However, he said Conduit Books will seek to publish a range of “overlooked” issues, including “fatherhood, masculinity, working-class male experience, sex and relationships, and negotiating the 21st-century as a man”.

Happy Indie Bookstore Day to all who celebrate! 📚🎉 Where's everyone shopping today? What books are you looking for? I'll be poking around Bookshop.org and Libro.fm since the closest indie shops to me are a bit far 🥲 If you have indies in your town, go shop there in my honor today, #Booksky!
Illustration of a bookshop storefront. The main sign at the top of the store says, "Indie Bookstore Day, April 26th." There's a sign hanging on the door that says, "Yes! Your local indie bookstore is open." On the sidewalk, there's a sandwich board with "Bookshops over Billionares" and a red circle with a line through it over the word Amazon, all written in chalk.

In the window of the bookshop are three shelves of books, the titles of which are listed at the end of this image description. Next to the books on the bottom shelf is an orange cat sleeping in a cat bed.

Above the shop are two windows to the second floor of the building, both with curtains drawn. One window has succulents on the window sill, and the other has a tuxedo cat peaking out from behind the curtains.

Books featured in the window.

Top shelf:
• SHOOT YOUR SHOT by Lexi LaFleur Brown
• WILD AND WRANGLED by Lyla Sage
• GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL LIFE by Emily Henry
• LOVE IN FOCUS by Lyla Lee
• I THINK THEY LOVE YOU by Julian Winters

Middle shelf:
• THE PRINCESS KNIGHT by Cait Jacobs
• YOU STARTED IT by Jackie Khalilieh
• OATHBOUND by Tracy Deonn
• WHY ON EARTH edited by Vania Stoyanova and Rosiee Thor
• THE CORRUPTION OF HOLLIS BROWN by K. Ancrum

Bottom shelf:
• IT'S A LOVE/SKATE RELATIONSHIP by Carli J. Corson
• OF MONSTERS AND MAINFRAMES by Barbara Truelove
• SUNRISE ON THE REAPING by Suzanne Collins

Adult. Thriller.

In Anna-Marie McLemore’s adult debut, “Mother May I” Iverson has built a successful social media empire over the last 20 years with her five mixed-raced daughters as the stars. When it burns down, literally, her daughters are the top suspects of the torched mansion and murder of May’s newlywed husband. Everyone has a theory: each of the five sisters, May, a mysterious “friend of the family”, and the online audience dragging down their feeds in hopes of another clue. How to Have a Killer Time in DC by Sam Lumley

Adult. Mystery.

For Oliver Popp, autism is just another fact of life. As long as he has a set schedule, he’s good to go anywhere his travel writer job takes him. Washington, DC tests him. Ricky, his photographer for this assignment is flirty, adorable, and impulsive. Plus, a congressional hearing is shaking up both the capitol and a billionaire. Then a run-in with old acquaintance, Elise, turns their trip into a murder mystery when she’s struck dead by a speeding car. Suddenly, Oliver’s assignment to cover the latest tourist trends in DC seems much less interesting or important.

Book #06 | Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynna Jones #BookSky 🪐📚
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Book number six read in 2025.

There are two types of "I wish I'd read this book sooner!" reviews. The first is wishing you'd read a book at the age when you needed to hear its message the most. The second is wishing you'd read the book when you could still enjoy it. This review is the second. I spent the whole audiobook picking out all the details why it's obvious so many loved Howl's Moving Castle. It's literally magical. It narrates the frustrations of growing up and realizing the world isn't as kind or safe as you thought it was. When I boil it down to these themes, I loved it! And yet, I couldn't grt into it. If I'd read this as a teen, I'm sure it would hold a more special place in my heart.

DNF #01 | Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison #BookSky #RomanceReads (Whoa, new format!! Because who am I if not indecisive! Not sure why I thought a 16:9 aspect would be better than sticking with 4:5, but hopefully this is more legible 😭)
Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison

DNF number one • Rant Part 1

To be totally honest, tbus biok was not on my radar at all until I saw it was one of the Pagebound.co winter readalong picks. I do not blame the wonderful people at Pagebound, but oh. my. god. This book wasn't it. I expected a romance novel that I could just put on in the vackground as I felt myself slipping into a reading slump as a way to reset my brain from listening to podcasts to listening to audiobooks, but I could not stop making fun of these characters. How are you going to tell me Stella and Luca have been best friends for a decade but have discussed sex "exactly twice." Girl, be serious. You are not besties...[Lovelight Farms review continued]

You are two people who have feelings for each other but keep the other at arm's length becahse you can't confront your feelings, let alone the other person about said feelings. To its credit, this story is far from the worst example of the "But I don't want to ruin our friendship!" trope, but it's stories like this that make me understand how people can dislike the friends to lovers trope. It didn't even move that slowly, and it still felt like nails on a chalkboard, the way Stella was like "ome, what are we gonna tell everyone?" about their fake relationship just for the whole town to screech "Holy hell, finally!" Book #05 | Why on Earth edited by Rosiee Thor and Vania Stoyanova #BookSky 🪐📚
Why on Earth edited by Rosiee Thor and Vania Stoyanova

Book number five read in 2025.

I’m not typically one for anthologies—I’ve read several before and enjoyed them but not gotten into them, you know? But the story building in Why on Earth that makes the chapters flow despite each being by a different author is a work of art, and you can tell just how much love and effort and fun went into writing it. I love this collaborative sci-fi concept. I love all the different directions the authors took it. And I love the overall theme of universal desire to be seen and loved. After all... aliens are just like us.

Contributors: Julian Winters, Eric Smith, Laura Pohl, Alex Brown, Rebecca Kim Wells, Maya Gittelman, M.K. England, SJ Whitby, Emily Lloyd-Jones, Beth Revis.

Book #04 | Looking For a Sign by Susie Dumond #BookSky 🌶️📚 🎧📚
Looking For a Sign by Susie Dumond

Book number four read in 2025.

Amidst the chaos of a break-up and a move from Tulsa to New Orleans, Gray visits an astrologer for some guidance and misinterprets the advice about her impending Saturn return as a challenge to date one person from each sign to find her true match, leading to just as many swoon-worthy moments as cringe-worthy moments. More than that, Looking For a Sign is about taking risks and growing up even after you’re well into adulthood. Despite how dirty Dumond does Virgo (I mean, come ON [sob emoji]), this is one you’ll want to pick up.

Book #03 | Some Strange Music Draws Me In by Griffin Hansbury #BookSky ⏳📚 🖋️📚
Some Strange Music Draws Me In by Griffin Hansbury

Book number three read in 2025.

Written in a style that feels indistinguishable from a memoir, Hansbury tells a story highlighting the disconnect between generations of queer people. It’s a frustrating read at times as a Millennial/Gen Z cusp reader, but it’s supposed to be. Told on a dual timeline, Some Strange Music Draws Me In explores complicated feelings of jealousy of how much easier younger generations have it and desire for the pain previous generations went through to get to this point to count for something. This is one of those books that probably aren’t on many people’s radars but absolutely needs to be.

Book #02 | The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite #BookSky 🌶️📚 ⏳📚 🎧📚
The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite

Book number two read in 2025

Despite not being a fan of historical fiction, and perhaps not appreciating this as much as I should because of it, I recommend it for readers who do enjoy the genre. This book is incredibly well written—from Lucy and Catherine’s chemistry, to the stakes as Catherine fights for Lucy to receive the recognition she deserves for her translations of a high-profile French astronomer’s work, to the kick-ass twist at the end. Morag Sim’s narration is also perfect for this story if you’re looking for an audiobook.

Book #01 | You Can Go Your Own Way by Eric Smith #BookSky #RomanceBooks 🎧📚
You Can Go Your Own Way by Eric Smith

Book number one read in 2025.

Eric Smith’s books are perfect for when you need a rom-com that tackles big emotions in a way that makes them feel manageable. (Or when you need a story set in Philly because you’re missing it, like me.) You Can Go Your Own Way handles grief—for the loved ones we’ve lost, the living who can’t show up for you in the ways you need, and the dreams that simply will never manifest—with the care and humor that Smith’s readers have come to count on from his work. In this story, former friends Adam and Whitney have been going their own ways, but when their paths cross again, they must consider if maybe they’d fare better together than against each other.
