Andrew Krause @blindmath.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I enjoyed the calculations in astrophysics which, within the same calculation, used both pi=1 and pi^2=10, in such a way that the final answer was accurate to 2 or 3 decimal places! 040

Andrew Krause @blindmath.bsky.social · 24/09/2026"What are we even trying to do here?" Is what I have been asking many people in academia more widely lately. It is long past time for us, across *all* fields, to rethink the faux-meritocracy of numerical metrics (# of papers, citations, etc). We really should decide and reward what we truly value. 031
Andrew Krause @blindmath.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Much of it varies in different ways between fields/individuals, but it is often valuable to spend some time at least building an internal epistemology/set of terminology around "theory/model/heuristic/empirical..." etc. This is also very useful IMO, if long. plato.stanford.edu/entries/mode...plato.stanford.edu Models in Science (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) 020
