A few Christmas ago I was gifted this plastic mass produced window crystal thing. Occasionally it makes pretty rainbows but during the eclipse it created these amazing rainbow crescents on the bedroom wall.

You inspired me to join and maybe start writing some games again, just added my two most appreciated games so far. I need to find time to create more. Love their stance on AI and hope they can strike a good balance with card payment processors. rpg-trader.com/creator/1006...

Over lunch I was inspired to write a short little business card size micro game. It is called Klankers won't like you anymore. It is a playful way to explore communication between humans.
Text on blue background with decorative background letters. Text says.
Klankers won’t like you anymore
(any creative materials and an AI to confuddle)
Take turns creating messages for another player. This could be a plain text poem, abstract diagram or a collage of news clippings. The other player needs to tell you what the message means, if they are correct, you score 1 point and can move on to step 2. Send the message to an AI service and ask it to tell you what it means. If the AI can’t understand it and gives you an incorrect explanation of the message’s meaning you score 3 more points. Most points wins after 3 rounds.

I love collecting old books that contain games. Especially what we might call party games. Usually they are relatively tame and restrained but occasionally I find something unexpectedly frisky. This game from the 1940s called Partners Pleasure is a great example of our randy grandparents. 💋
Photo of a black and white book describing a kissing game. The full text on the page says.

PARTNERS' PLEASURE

A MAN and a girl are chosen to start partnerless. The others pair off quickly, for a player is safe only when in the company of, and indeed kissing, a member of the opposite sex. It is the object of the two partnerless players to catch a couple off their guard, that is, not kissing. This is the only way in which the partnerless ones can themselves achieve partners. Some time may elapse before they succeed

Then a black and white drawing of multiple people kissing with the following caption.

You can at least choose your partners for this game; choose them well.

One advantage of starting up fresh as a solo freelance worker is I get to start with a clean slate. For me this means achieving inbox zero. How long can I keep it up?

An advantage of flying the long way round back from Japan is seeing greenland from the air, the northern lights out the window and technically crossing off the bucket list item of circumnavigating the globe.

Doing the word cloud thing from bskyinsights.com I learnt two things. I don't post anywhere near as much as I used to in the other place. And I like talking about games.

We have 24hs left of the campaign and we are now fully funded. Thank you. If you know someone who wants this HIV classroom education resource for the cheapest price we will ever sell it at, they have just enough time to make a last minute pledge. www.kickstarter.com/projects/ace...

We should keep talking about HIV. Why? Because we have the tools that means a HIV generation is within reach. But it is not a certainty. At the moment in England and Wales things may be going in reverse!

I was curious to read this bit. The phrase that jumped out "when it was actually delivered" Is this report saying something about mental health awareness interventions OR is it revealing something about the school context for these interventions. Are schools too busy/over whelmed to do this?

Last December I wrote and shared 24 microgames that fit on a business card. You can download all 24 in a single file on itch.io. blindfishideas.itch.io/24-business-... This is one of the strangest but is my favourite.

Travelling for work I always go for the cheapest place I can get that is with 15min of the event venue. Occasionally I end up in hotels where I feel vastly underdressed.

Playing Pokémon splendor. And two additions compared to the base game have radically impacted how it plays. Firstly evolving Pokémon as a bonus action adds another level of strategy which is so satisfying. Secondly the Pokédex scorecard creates a mini legacy aspect that is a fun distraction.

Why aren't more games made with multiple ways to play them? Is it a cynical cash grab to sell more games or are game set with multiple ways to play less fun? Is it a design decision or a production decision? I tried making some rules for ticket to ride components www.blindfish.games/2023/12/fest...

So I felt compelled to make my own laser and feeling hack. Again exploring the card based RPG design space but this time only 1 card to represent a familiar/animal. It's roll under to do a Bold action and over to be Sly. But slight twist, not all characters use the same size dice.
Variety of companion cards. Showing a Sprite, Gremlin, Spider, Monkey etc. each card has just the name, image, dice size (d4, d6, d10 or d12) and target number.

The backs of the cards hold the flavour text and an image to help players picture what each card is about. Again using colour to differentiate between mage exclusive options and generic options open to all classes.

This is an example of my new RPG "character sheet". Just 8 cards for a starting character. Generic aspects have the grey background all the mage specific ones have purple.

The test print deck (for beta testing, not final art) for my new card based RPG system has arrived. And despite immediately spotting layout errors my first impression is really positive. I'm hoping it will work as a step up gateway RPG. With both charcter creation and flexible gameplay.

This has to be my favourite (if not yet perfect) board game upgrade. It's taken a while to save up and collect all the bits but I can now play Splendor with real gems. Onyx, ruby, emerald, sapphire and even real (but very tiny) diamonds. Lots of raw uncut gems. And silver coins as gold would be 💰!

Working on some mini RPG props and made some fey cinnamon. Not sure if I want wax sealed, silver glitter seal or no seal. Just need to make some mini labels for them.

Just working on a draft version of a card based RPG. No character sheets, character abilities and equipment is all card based. Hopefully working as a gateway option for people new to RPG but want to 'build' their character. Previous draft copy has gone done well.

Another fun little project I'm working on is making some wax seals. My family crest struggles a bit. But my blindfish logo has come out really well. Got a new RPG project idea in mind where a wax seal will be useful.

So im working on a card game that is about bidding. And the least satisfying bit of it is handling money, paper notes are fiddly, notepad and paper is too much math for some players. So today I've been pouring pewter into laser cut casts to make custom coins. They feel good in the hand
