Finally, I don’t think Hard Truths is one of the greatest British films, or even Mike Leigh’s best film, but I do think Marianne Jean-Baptiste might deliver the greatest performance of all time. I mean that literally. It’s very possibly the best performance I’ve ever seen in a movie.

Out of that very specific British genre (working class comedy drama about underdogs doing uplifting things), I think my favourite is Pride, although Brassed Off and Little Voice are also terrific.
