Not sure how many people followed Max's work with The Ring, but you rarely see someone do so much reputational harm to their career for a short-term gig. Max was SAS's partner. Had his own show on ESPN. Been reliably cringe the last year. Hard to see a path back for him within mainstream media.

Truly amazing content. Thought he had cracked the case, and this was his moment. When Smith denies it, he claims perjury. It's pointed out multiple times that his whole conspiracy is based on him not realizing "Hawkeyes" ≠ Atlanta Hawks, and he STILL blusters belligerently.

Definitely some upside for the Big Ten that Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin showing signs of life. That said Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan are the programs that do the heavy lifting in terms of TV ratings. All three head to October with a loss already is not ideal.

Still though another data point (less installments, less marketing, social media accounts rebranded) of the erosion of the 30 for 30 brand and importance internally at ESPN. 30 for 30 was definitely a part of the apex of sports media.

I remember Bill Simmons and others lamented the second batch of 30 for 30s went out the door as "ESPN Films Presents", and hence a lot of people didn't get the recorded. A decade plus later, streaming is the safety net and DVR is less of a thing.

I don't think the new 30-for-30 DVR'd for me and others. Looks like it was on the guide as '14 Days in Gainesville', and hence anyone with a record all episodes didn't snag it on the DVR.

Fox has a pretty extensive track record of needling the NBA, and now the WNBA. Money heals almost all wounds, but possible Fox has napalmed the bridges to the point where they will never be considered for national rights for either league.

Gameday is ESPN's most tried-and-true show outside of SC. Used to be a festive and fun pregame show. It's now a circus. Some people like circuses! Many at ESPN agree, but those in charge see the numbers (ratings up, younger+more women), so the circus will roll on until the numbers change.
