All issues of decency aside, it seems like a really stupid idea to publicly execute a man who set out to die as an martyr. That said, stupid is on brand for Trump Deux.

People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.

Many years ago, a colleague & I often lost work due to an unreliable power outlet. We complained to IT, but nothing happened. My boss bought a long extension cord, draped it over a couple of cubicles, and connected us to a different outlet. The *real* problem was unreliable power, not IT.

Google's Gemini seems to relate to my loathing for the garbage its corporate owners are trying to force feed us. These are all decent alternatives to Google's cluttered, impenetrable, and increasingly useless search results.

Google search query:
google sucks. what are the best alternative search engines?

Gemini responds.

Ditch the bloated algorithms and targeted ads. Depending on what you hate most about Google, the best alternatives offer fresh results without tracking, rely on AI summaries, or use completely independent indexes:

Brave Search: The best all-around alternative if you want to leave the Google/Bing monopoly. It uses its own independent index and offers optional AI answers without compromising your privacy.

DuckDuckGo: The gold standard for privacy. It doesn't track your search history or build profiles on you, making it an excellent daily driver.

Startpage: Gives you Google's exact search results but strips out all the tracking cookies and personal data harvesting.

Perplexity AI: If you dislike traditional blue links entirely, this AI "answer engine" researches your query and synthesizes the information with inline citations.

Kagi: A premium, ad-free search engine favored by power users. It lets you customize your search algorithms and delivers highly relevant, spam-free results.

Ecosia: A great eco-friendly option. It uses Bing’s backend but donates the majority of its ad revenue to plant trees around the world.

Airline ticket prices are surging. A major culprit? Rising jet fuel costs due to Trump's Iran war. But there's also the underlying concentration in the industry. Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today. Less competition makes it easier for the biggest players to price-gouge.
