every time i reached for my phone to take a picture of them, these two would give me an annoyed squawk because macaws are smart enough to identify when one should live in the moment rather than just try to document everything
Two blue-and-yellow macaws side by side on a branch looking at the viewer, one thinks, slightly annoyed.

"Deng Yu, the 37-year-old Chinese mathematician who won the 2026 Fields Medal, has a backup plan if artificial intelligence puts him out of a job.

On Tuesday, he wrote on social media that "if AI can solve all maths problems, I'll go home and write my yuri novel".

Deng is known to be a big fan of yuri, a genre of Japanese novels and comics that depicts intimate friendships and romantic relationships between women.

Per the creator, "given the still relative lack of solid criteria for identification, this diagram really serves little purpose other than to illustrate the general trend towards larger birds to the south, smaller birds to the north and darker birds to the north west"

Screenshot of my attempt to erase part of an image in powerpoint. A dialog box has opened up titled "This feature is very popular right now" with the caption "We can't complete your request at the moment, but we're working to meet the increased demand, You can try again later." Figure captioned "Frequency of beak (orange, right bar), tail (green, left bar) and wing use in rosy-faced lovebirds (Agapornis roseicollis). Wing use was not observed at any substrate angle." The data is in the form of a 90 degree arc sweep with bar charts at 90, 67.5, 45, 22.5, and 0 degree angles. At 90 degrees tails and beaks were used 100%. Tail use remained common until 45 degrees, after which it ceased, but beak use declined at a faster rate.Figure captioned "Representative cycle observed during vertical climbing in rosy-faced lovebirds (Agapornis roseicollis)." Screenshot of an AI overview box, reading:
In Flemish (which is a Dutch dialect), the word for ladybug is “lieveheersbeestie". A phonetic approximation is "lee-vuh-heers-bay-st-yuh", where the "g" is a hard, guttural sound similar to the “ch in the Scottish word "loch". The literal translation is “little beast of the Lord". [ai] working on the paper that will get me fired
According to pioneers in AI research like Marvin Minsky, CEOs of AI-powered tech companies like Elon Musk, and even some people who didn’t associate with notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein socially, AI will continue to have a transformative impact on society. However, the impact of this transformation is not felt evenly or equally across society.
For instance, AI has made great strides in the fields of convincing teenagers to kill themselves, helping people cheat on
tests, reducing what little integrity academic publishing had, making customer service worse, and making sure artists, translators, and programmers are paid less (if they even continue to have jobs). However, this allocation of interest and resources seems inefficient— for instance, most artists weren’t really being paid that much anyway even before AI came along. As so much university and corporate marketing material insists, we should instead be looking for impact: where can AI produce the greatest economic gains for the smallest cost? A killer app for AI should therefore be one where the current economic cost is high (spending trillions to make a few thousand artists less employable seems
like a waste of resources) and the AI methods are consistently performant (which excludes most current applications like medical diagnostics and software engineering, where actual performance in real-world settings often lags behind promises).[Full text is over the character limit. The passage begins with the following, and argues for automating away CEOs as unnecessary in the AI-driven world:]
To this end, I argue that we should focus Al research on automating, and eventually eliminating, the job of CEO. CEOs are expensive: while the ratio of CEO to average employee pay was 21 to 1 in 1965, it is 632-to-17 and growing for CEOs in 2025, while average worker pay is stagnating behind inflation. And, according to self-reports, the work of being a CEO is arduous: "It’s frankly a horrible job. I wouldn’t want it. Being a C.E.O. of a big company is a hundred-hour-a-week job. It consumes your life. It consumes your weekend. It’s super-stressful", with multiple tech CEOs remarking that performing all the tasks expected of a successful CEO requires giving up ideas of a healthy work-life balance?, with self-reported tracking of CEO time usage finding the job to be “all-consuming”. Lastly, many of the responsibilities of being a CEO can and have been performed by AI. The tech company Klarna made headlines for having an Al-generated video (centered around a deepfake of their CEO) deliver their earnings report, with initial works showing (admittedly short term) benefits of decisions made by LLM-driven CEOs over human decision-making. In summary, the job of CEO is expensive, arduous, and amenable to automation...
