If I read one more reference to 'gold plating' of EU law in Ireland....Can anyone show me the evidence? Should we look to the over half our rivers and lakes polluted? The trend which is getting worse? The 25% of our most pristine waterbodies now lost? A 🧵 www.irishtimes.com/ireland/hous...

A useful explainer for why the current "public consultation" on "the regulation of costs payable in matters prescribed on foot of section 294 of the Planning and Development Act 2024 (Scale of Fees)" is actually important and not just a technical matter.

Financial barriers to environmental litigation are against the law, because protecting the environment is an important public interest. The government now wants to make it super expensive (>€100,000) for ordinary people to go to court to protect the environment Please read and take action 👇

It's worth cataloguing what has happened in the water world in the last few weeks alone. It paints a picture of a Government who are not at all prioritising the health of our waterways, and who are failing on multiple fronts to put in place the measures we actually need. A watery rant 🧵

So that's it then. The biggest fish kill in the history of the State, and we're just going to move on, with no idea who or what caused it? It would be better to label it a river kill. Some major polluter is today breathing a sign of relief, while the river Blackwater remains half dead. 🧵
