Ok so now we can comment - The Social Reckoning - super classic Sorkin script - prologue outstanding. Superb performances. Mikey Madison amazing in the anti Anora role, Jeremy Strong chilling - loved Bill Burr as the Righteous Anger Sorkin Avatar.

Does the fact that Lance Oppenheim will be at the fest with Primetime increase the chance that You Can See Everything will be the Surprise Film, given that he also co-directed that? #lff

Reading a bio of Roy Cohn and does this sound familiar - over ten year age gap between his parents - they hate each other - his mum idolises and spoils the only son - the only son has just one ball (due to childhood mumps)….

Lots of good stuff in the Venice that will hopefully make its way to #LFF. I’m excited to see Danny Boyles Rupert Murdoch film and Gibney’s Musk doc. Also a new Martin McDonagh! Not sure about Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard but super title. #filmsky

At first I was pissed off we didn’t get Odysseus meeting Achilles in Hades as that’s the most moving part of the poem for me, and also interrogates and subverts the idea of heroism from The Illiad. I *think* what Nolan is doing is transferring that to Odysseus in a Rambo First Blood kind of a way.

One day there will be an epic drinking game where you take a shot every time someone says Zeus’s’ Law. That BS concept did a LOT of heavy lifting in this flick. #odyssey

Pro-tip to Chris Nolan: people in the Bronze Age didn’t refer to themselves as being in the Bronze Age. Also I don’t think Helen of Troy and Penelope were proto-feminists. Nor do I believe Odysseus had PTSD or that the ancient world had a Reform Party suspicion of small boats. #theodyssey

Well I thoroughly enjoyed Rosebush Pruning! A nasty hilarious little indie film - if Lanthimos did Saltburn. Opinions vary - my mate called it Aldi Lanthimos! Super performances, soundtrack, style. The one line about Dover Street Market is the funniest shit I’ve heard in the cinema in years.

Bina007 @bina007.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

I am very very afraid Odyssey will be yet another Nolan movie of a male hero trying to get home with one token female character being passive and only existing as a fangirl of the hero

You don’t have a sport without at least the appearance of fairness. Try to monetise it as much as you like, but when you sell the fairness itself you devalue the product.

That’s the problem with populist right and left - they bury their heads in the sand and want to go back to some idyllic pre times that never existed. It’s a cop out. NOTHING about Europe in it. Nothing about solving productivity issues. Nothing about getting the young into work.

Bina007 @bina007.bsky.social · 30/06/2026

Reading Andy Burnham’s programme seems like he just wants to take us back to 1955 - manufacturing jobs and building council houses. There’s nothing about modern challenges - AI, social media regulation, climate change, payday loans and consumer credit. It feels so very retro.

Thoroughly enjoyed Sathnam Sanghera’s new book on George Michael. For me, George Michael’s music needs no defence. His perfectionist obsession meant his output was not as prolific as Prince or Madonna but the song to banger ratio is insane. #booksky

Denjiro Okochi was directed by Kurosawa in the century old film studios in Uzumasa on the outskirts of Kyoto. Kurosawa also shot Throne of Blood and Rashomon here. It’s still a centre of Jidaigeki films. #filmsky #kurosawa
