It's too bad this is behind a paywall. I have access through my academic medical center but there are so many people who do not have that kind of access and would benefit from reaching this.

I am certain that very few Democrats in Oregon support this measure or will vote for it. It is just being used by the right to attack Democrats.

I am sure that very few Democrats in Oregon support or will vote for this measure. The right is trying to pin this dumb measure on Democrats. (I am, like you, a near-vegetarian and also dislike most Oregon ballot measures.)

Yes, interesting study, but these studies are like testing cancer drugs in tissue cultures or animals: important intermediate steps but saying little about how they work in the hands of real clinicians taking care of real patients.

But I enjoy getting new medical students to think about the role of data, information, and AI in their future careers. Today I am giving the lecture to students at Nova Southeastern College of Allopathic Medicine.

Bill Hersh @billhersh.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
In recent years, the lecture has added a growing amount of content about artificial intelligence (AI), which unfortunately means some other important informatics-related material gets crowded out.

Each year, I give a lecture to first-year medical students at two universities. Entitled, Information is Different Now that You’re a Doctor, I introduce the field of clinical informatics and describe how the relationship with data and information changes when one becomes a physician.

I agree there is a grave concern for how difficult it is for young faculty to start research careers. But our academic medical centers, at least mine, are requiring higher levels of FTE support for senior faculty. A grant may not get funded if led by a younger faculty with less of a track record.
010
Bill Hersh @billhersh.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
What about those older faculty who are still required to have 60-70% grant funding of their salaries?

How do they even identify what a "Jew" is? Someone like myself who identifies as being Jewish but has all sorts of issues with organized religion (as my rabbi knows)? Or do you have a go to shul a certain amount? I agree with everyone for whom this scares the hell out of them.
