During my Master’s and PhD I was so into cyber security so I specifically focused on that area on my thesis. Additionally, I taught the Application Security 101 course at Informatica Feminale, Bremen University. Today, I found an unread message from one of the attendees on LinkedIn. It made my day.
The image shows a message expressing gratitude to someone who taught a class at Informatica Feminale. The sender mentions that the class was instrumental in preparing them for a job in IT security and that they started their first job as an IT security consultant two weeks ago. They thank the instructor for the encouraging class they attended last year.

Today was a Tim Burton day for me. I visited his exhibition and watched two of his movies. In the past, I wasn’t fully appreciating how valuable it is to spend my time engaging with things that inspire my creativity—things beyond my usual work or research projects. Now I feel totally different.
A display of puppets and models from Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, featuring Sparky, the iconic dog character with stitched details and large, expressive eyes, standing on a platform. Beside Sparky is the skeletal frame of a human character used in stop-motion animation, and a mechanical bird figure with intricate details. In the background, a fabric screen displays a simple landscape with a water tower and clouds, adding to the whimsical and gothic atmosphere of the scene. A framed drawing titled “Beetlejuice, 1988,” depicting a cemetery scene with a large tombstone labeled “Beetle Juice.” The stone is adorned with ghostly figures, crosses, and vines. The artwork has a hand-drawn, sketchy quality with pen, ink, and colored pencil, creating a slightly eerie but whimsical atmosphere.A framed artwork inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas, featuring Jack Skellington, the “Pumpkin King,” lying in a swirling, galaxy-like pattern filled with white dots resembling stars. Jack is in a relaxed, floating position at the center of the spiral, evoking a sense of dreaminess and solitude. The artwork combines shades of black, white, and blue to create a cosmic and eerie effect, characteristic of the film’s gothic aesthetic.

I was unhappy that I couldn’t read the book "Designing Data-Intensive Applications" regularly. A friend of mine mentioned that he listened to it as an audiobook, so I decided to try that too. Suddenly, I found that I had a motivation to follow the book while listening. This is my new morning routine
A wooden table with the book *Designing Data-Intensive Applications* by Martin Kleppmann, an open audiobook app playing the same title on a smartphone, and two red mushroom-shaped salt and pepper shakers with white spots. A laptop with colorful stickers is partially visible in the upper right corner.

Literal app surpasses Goodreads in several aspects. It diligently addresses numerous straightforward improvements, steadily implementing them one by one. In contrast, Goodreads seemed unconcerned about the app's stability, making Literal's approach all the more satisfying.

Spent a Xmas w/ a Brazilian friend and her family in 🇧🇷. In dinner table, when I mentioned “Ai Se Eu Te Pego,” the table fell silent due to the meaning of the son. Later they explained it. Now, I can’t listen to the song without feeling a tinge of awkwardness. 😂

Decided to do few-shot learning, but then I realized I have enough data (kinda) to do some classification. But guess what? The labels in the data aren't the ones I'm after. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So, back to the few-shot idea it is, but this time with a human loop 🫠bc apparently I don’t have any labelled data.
