One of the reasons I despise AI is how it robs imagination twice. First it steals from creatives and thinkers to make slop. Then it lets users bypass rather than learn a creative process. The political timing isn’t accidental. We need imagination to envision a better world that we’ll fight for.

I often think about how Boomers are struggling to reckon with the no contact fallout from emotionally abusing millennials and Gen X kids & how millennials & Gen X parents will face the same reckoning with kids they harmed via repeated, preventable covid infections & careless use of tech like AI.

Disabled people are over twice as likely to experience sexual assault than non-disabled people. In the US specifically, 2 in 5 women who experienced rape are disabled. Among US men who experienced sexual violence, 1 in 4 are disabled. Sexual violence is an issue of disability justice.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Today I walked in the woods. I saw fall warblers & many mushrooms. I overheard women weep about rape culture. Now I will cuddle a dog, have dinner with a friend, then attend an n95-required festival with pals who organize for collective liberation while fascism flourishes. Rage & gratitude, daily.

A small, domed mushroom with a blush-pink cap and white stipe grows from a forest floor covered in russet-colored pine needles, speckled with golden autumn leaves, and with gnarled roots and mossy bits between the rest. In the background, an understory that is still summertime green is dappled with sunlight.

A morning hike to see fall warblers, a pre-nor’easter picnic wth a friend, the smell of a homemade pizza cooking in my oven, chopping apples for a batch of apple butter to gift to friends tomorrow at a n95-required hang, listening to a spooky audiobook… Not a bad first weekend of autumn!

COVlD-associated hospitalizations are exploding in NYC. This is quite serious. Due to vaccinations and prior mortality, the acute effects of infection are often less obviously apparent in 2026. It's a testament to the high transmission. Screenshot from @datareport.bsky.social via the devil app.

May I remind everyone that there is currently NO cure for rabies. May I also remind everyone there is absolutely NO scientific proof connecting ANY vaccine that we produce today with autism. This is true regarding vaccination in both humans AND in dogs. Vaccinate your pets please.
Worries about vaccination rates in dogs
As rabies seems to be spreading more in wildlife, veterinarians are especially worried about vaccine hesitancy spreading among pet owners, a dangerous trend that could lead to more dogs - and their owners
- becoming infected. A 2023 study published in the journal Vaccine found in nationally representative
sample of Americans that nearly 40% believed canine vaccines were unsafe and 37% believed that vaccines could lead their dogs to develop cognitive issues, such as autism.

Thank you for this idea! I’m also now wondering about pausing this WIP and using the additional skeins I have of these two colors to experiment with other pairings with new colors. If I find something I like more, then I can frog my first attempt.

I started knitting a color work project. It’s taken AGES to make progress. Now that I have a bit done… I don’t love the way the two colors look together. Should I keep going and see if I like it more over time? Frog it all now and restart with colors I like more? Both options feel bad 😭 🧶

Every new Fetterman pants-shitting is treated as evidence that he is now a bad person. But long before this & long before his stroke, he chased an unarmed Black jogger in his truck, detained him with a shotgun, and continued to insist he had done the right thing. That somehow wasn’t disqualifying.

For what it's worth, a depiction of "AI" as moral panic is exactly backwards with respect to power: moral panics are promulgated by entrenched power. In contrast, "AI" represents centralization of power and nobody is pushing it harder than existing entrenched powers.
Agents of moral panic

Characterizing the reactions to the mod and rocker conflict, Cohen identified four key agents in moral panics: mass media, moral entrepreneurs, the culture of social control, and the public.[1][8][22]

    Media – especially key in the early stage of social reaction, producing "processed or coded images" of deviance and the deviants.[30] This involves three processes:[8]
        exaggeration and distortion of who did or said what;
        prediction, the dire consequences of failure to act;
        symbolization, signifying a person, word, or thing as a threat.
    Moral entrepreneurs – individuals and groups who target deviant behavior
    Societal control culture – comprises those with institutional power: the police, the courts, and local and national politicians. They are made aware of the nature and extent of the 'threat'; concern is passed up the chain of command to the national level, where control measures are instituted.
    The public – these include individuals and groups. They have to decide who and what to believe: in the mod and rocker case, the public initially distrusted media messages, but ultimately believed them.

This is also eugenics. This is how the concepts become deeply entrenched, taken for granted as common sense so that disabled people are disbelieved, denied diagnoses and access to healthcare, and ultimately abandoned to experience increasing disability until they die, much sooner than they had to.
