Ummm, there's apparently a driver with a Florida tag who has gotten 57 traffic camera tickets in D.C. — including one for driving *141 mph* in a 35 mph zone. And another driver with a Virginia tag that has 405 traffic camera tickets, including going 108 in a 25. Insane.

Convincing young people that America is poor & no one can afford anything & everyone is living paycheck to paycheck & their economic future is doomed ... IS NOT GOING TO LEAD TO MORE PROGRESSIVE POLICY. People who feel anxious & under threat do not respond with openness & generosity! Look it up!

urbanists are weird about helmet discourse because any time a cyclist is killed by a driver, the police and media love to describe in excruciating detail what the cyclist was wearing

seriously fuck this statement from my ANC
ANC 5A statement on draft FLUM:

single-family homes. Introducing multi-family apartment buildings would represent
a jarring departure from the established architectural and social fabric of this neighborhood.
Incompatible Density: The foundational identity of North Michigan Park is rooted in
low-density, single-family zoning. While the Commission firmly supports thoughtful urban growth and new housing development, replacing existing single-family areas with high-density apartment complexes is an inappropriate approach for this specific pocket of the District. Less disruptive housing alternatives exist that can achieve growth without compromising the area's current scale.
• Height and Contextual Limitations:
The Commission strongly believes that high-density, four-story residential units should be restricted to existing commercial corridors. The residential

This is why I have no tolerance for people who scold pedestrians/cyclists about road safety being a shared responsibility. People are killed by drivers while on the sidewalk in America, and the paper writes it up like the car just happened to have a life of its own

Buchannan
Street Update Clarification
As you note, the developer is seeking to change the plan approved in 2022 (by raising the approved height limit from 40 to 43 feet), so it's appropriate to ask whether additional benefits and amenities are now warranted.
We don't need to approve any change as an
ANC and community unless we're satisfied with what the developer is offering. We have significant leverage in this moment.

[SMD5A03] Shade Study
Good evening everyone,
As a follow up from our last meeting about the townhomes at Buchannan Street NE
the developers have completed a shade study and found the addition of the 4th story does not affect the sunlight on the existing homes along Buchanan Street. While a portion of the sidewalks on Buchanan Street would be slightly shaded in the month of December, the homes themselves are not impacted.
I have attached their report. I am working with them to find a date in the next could of weeks for us to hold a follow up meeting on this topic. Once I have that, I will send out a notice.
Your Commissioner and neighbor,

the way our cities view housing is just so bleak
We're working on a plan to provide housing options to DC residents today
and in the future.
The District has about 325,000
households today.
The current comprehensive plan allows for a total of 445,000 possible households.
In order to keep housing prices from rising relative to inflation, OP estimates that we will need at least
460,000 households by 2050.
Our proposed plan expands on the current comprehensive plan by adding capacity for 15,000 households. This brings DC's housing capacity to 460,000 households by 2050.

The 4th amendment allows me to speed in a school zone is a wild ass take
Quite skeet: OK, home rule is better than this. And it should be able to do things like banning right on red if community safety requires it.
But NO ONE should be able to violate the Fourth Amendment by using traffic cameras.
Surprised that Oversight would even want to curb the surveillance state?
