I remember the dark times and having to use a 50 ft Ethernet cable to connect the couch laptop to the router. Then 802.11b came out. New router + a PCMCIA card for the laptop meant wireless freedom! Lol.

The squirrels and crows in my backyard have been fighting back quite aggressively against the local hawk. Seen both launch group attacks against the hawk. A half dozen cruws chasing a hawk is quite a sight.

It's too long for a post, and can't easily be broken up into a thread, so I'm going to do the screenshot + alt text thing to say: vote for zero Republicans.

In my political life, I have attempted to follow the wise counsel provided by my church.

"Some principles compatible with the gospel may be found in various political parties, and members should seek candidates who best embody those principles. Members should also study candidates carefully and vote for those who have demonstrated integrity, compassion, and service to others, regardless of party affiliation."

Following this counsel has led me to support candidates of various political parties, or no political party. (My friend Jason Williams has called me one of the few true independents he knows.) It also leads many people I know to ask for my advice on which candidates they should support. With this in mind, I hope you take the following statement as seriously as it is intended as ballots arrive in your mailbox.

The correct number of Republicans to vote for this year is zero.

Either as collaborators or cowards, the elected officials and candidates of the GOP have shown that they will not stand for the rule of law, and will actively support or passively defer to an ethnonationalist fascism antithetical to every American ideal. Even Karl Rove (yes, that Karl Rove) has said that the GOP has a serious Nazi problem (his words, not mine). Many others who have left the GOP, including Bill Kristol, Adam Kinzinger, Liz Cheney, and Joe Walsh have stated very clearly what I do: the GOP has become an un-American disgrace not worth your votes. When it comes to holding their own accountable, they have proven quite thoroughly that they will not.

Any candidate who can support rule of law, pluralism (especially as recently expressed by Dallin H. Oaks), and strong personal integrity is worthy of consideration regardless of their policy positions. I have personally decided that none of my policy preferences matter unless we correct for the rampant and intentional lawbreaking currently happening in this administration. I have an OG KoalaPad digitizer tablet. It looks like an x-y pot to the host system. I should plug it into an ESP32 or something sometime.

OG KoalaPad in it's styrofoam packaging. There's a C64 cartridge that does something plus a few sheets of dot matrix printed paper that fit over the digitizer surface for a Lego crane I used to control with the pad and my C64.

Check out the HBM wafer penalty vs DDR. Takes roughly 3x the amount of die space to make a bit of HBM vs a bit of DDR. So mfrs are shipping same wafer area at a higher price but with less memory bits being produced overall.

I interviewed there once. They brought me straight from lobby to conference room and rotated people out of the conference room. Never got to see what the office space, cube farm, or labs looked like. It was a really strange way to conduct an interview.

Thanks for doing this. Any reason why they didn't index the graduated income tax brackets to wage growth so that the tax increases would stay upon about 3% of the population over time? I'm still probably voting for it but indexing would defang at least one argument against it.

Someone's 3 yo decided to abandon his mom and sit next to me in the Drs waiting room today. Nurse calls my name and I get up and leave the kid behind. Nurse was horrified I was leaving my 3yo unattended. The look of "WTF, bro?" on her face was priceless. 😂

Last year me left this year me a python script called red(dot)py on a server that completely configures all the outdoor lights for Halloween. He also left me some commented out lines in crontab to enable said script.

Yeah, guy had a really nice enclosed trailer behind his pickup truck and this bike comes flying over the trailer. Well, he also had a flat truck bed with a stack of bikes on it that were not well secured.

Dude (not me) lost his bicycle out of his truck directly in front of me on the highway at 70 mph. Luckily, the Ranger has great brakes so I lost only half a cheeseburger. Also, must move the dashcam out of the living room floor and into my truck.
