The yellow heart emoji ⟨💛⟩ is mistakenly displayed as a pink "hairy heart" ⟨a pink heart symbol with marks representing short hair.⟩ in Google's Android 4.4 mobile operating system (released 2013) because Google's emoji art team misinterpreted the dots in Unicode's black-and-white reference images ⟨Heart symbol with dots.⟩ as being hair stubble. In reality, the dotted pattern is simply used as a colorless way to represent the color yellow (in accordance with heraldic hatching).

New: Google researcher Jean-Marc Valin, major contributor for Opus and Speex, releases OLAC, which combines Opus with lossless compression in a hybrid format. Similar to DTS + DTS-HD, it allows a lossy core and a lossless correction track, retaining CD-quality audio. Testing suggests the file […]

oh yes
bluesky thread by Dan O'Sullivan:
"Today I saw the new 4 hour documentary Musk, directed by Alex Gibney. There were too many times to count that a sold out theater burst out laughing at Elon Musk, something he said or did, even sometimes just how he looked. I believe that is his worst nightmare come to life.
I should add that in addition to being much funnier than anticipated--Musk is going to be intensely humiliated by this movie, it's going to attack the deepest wounds he tries so hard to conceal--it is also bone-chilling. I think he gutted USAID with DOGE to kill masses of people in the third world.
I should also add that when the movie got to showing people burning Teslas and vandalizing dealerships, the theater of mostly older folks in Santa Monica started applauding. I think it is possible Trump and Musk turned libs over 50 into John Brown.
There's a moment early on that's just footage of Elon Musk balding and in khakis walking down an office hallway in the late 90s and the entire audience burst out laughing. If Musk is made aware of audience reactions like this I think he might actually crash out.

Guide to de-upscaling content, mostly 2D animation. Much anime is rendered sub-1080p, then upscaled to 1080p. This can introduce artifacts if not upscaled properly. It also is far less efficient to store. I don't think most groups encode anime at its native res, but I'm not sure why that is […]

Two women in attire resembling a modern modest bikini. You can see almost their entire stomach and legs. The lower piece sparkles. Purportedly c. 1940-1959.An all-ages crowd on a fairground midway. Wearing what we today would call conservative dress. Slacks, longer skirts, sleeved shirts. Roller coaster and ferris wheel visible.A woman from behind. She wears a singlet and a short haircut resembling Liza Minnelli. Her outfit resembles a modern one-piece swimsuit, but on the very revealing side. The outfit is a Vegas showgirl type, with short streamers hanging off it and a contrasting sparkling sheen in the middle. Her lower buttocks are visible along with her pantyhose that slightly darken her legs. She wears a necklace and is seemingly posing seductively for an audience of mostly teens and above. A child age 6-12 is in the front row. This is probably the same midway seen in photo #2, though it was taken on a different day.
