The Waco torture and lynching of Jesse Washington in 1916 has stuck with me for years after reading the details. 10,000 people came to watch him be torn to pieces, and burned alive over the course of hours. Exactly 100 years ago.

This is why I bring up the fact we make jails and prisons into spaces for our entertainment. The titillation is the specter of someone being raped and/or stabbed and it’s a source of content across prestige, mainstream, and less formal entertainment.
