Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 24/07/2026While Edmonton did not host any World Cup games in 2026, the city did welcome the world 25 years ago this summer when it became the first North American city to host World Championships in Athletics - track and field’s best athletes in a rematch of the 2000 Summer Olympics. Enjoy these memories. 010
Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 17/07/2026With this year’s K-Days set to open Friday, allow me to turn back the clock 35 years with a look at this brochure from the 1991 edition of the event. Enjoy. 000
Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 18/05/2026As the Saskatchewan Roughriders (one of the oldest pro sports teams in North America - est. 1910) take to the field for the start of the pre-season, here’s a blast from the past from my collection - dating back to the 1960s and days of legendary players Ron Lancaster, George Reed and Ed McQuarters. 000

Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 06/05/2026There was a K-Days (Edmonton’s summer fair) media preview today for this year’s event. How the event has evolved and changed over the past 35 years. Here’s a look at the media kit from 1991’s preview for what was known at that time as “Klondike Days” 011
Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 21/04/2026We recently marked the 44th anniversary of patriation of Canada’s constitution. Government leaders at the time wisely distributed this summary of the Constitution Act to high the school students - Canada’s youth - many of whom would become much of the current generation of Canada’s leaders. 000
Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 21/04/2026A thought as the Oilers take on Anaheim - the last time the Oilers won the Stanley Cup, the team they’re facing in the first round this year didn’t even exist(see photo). For those of us of a certain vintage, it just doesn’t seem that long ago that the Oilers won the cup. Let’s do it again! 010

Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 16/02/2026Happy Family Day. After debuting in Alberta 36 years ago, a February holiday now exists in most provinces. This is a button produced by the Alberta government to celebrate that first one in 1990. 010
Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 01/02/2026Growing up in Regina, my parents were friends with his aunt and uncle. We ended up buying a tent trailer from John’s parents in Zehner in the late 70s. I remember the drive to the farm to get it. John’s real last name was Agopsowicz - not very Hollywood friendly, so understandable why he changed it. 121

Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 17/11/2025Growing up in Regina within walking distance of Taylor Field, I know how much this Grey Cup Championship means to Rider fans across the country & around the world. It doesn’t happen often and it’s a great feeling. Big thanks to the dedicated players & coaches that brought it home for Rider Nation.🏆 030
Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 11/11/2025Let us remember today those who fought for the freedoms that so many take for granted. We must remain vigilant to ensure our essential freedom are not eroded again. I pay special tribute to my father who bravely served the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. Lest we forget. 🇨🇦 0160

It was way back in 1838 when two teams came together in a cow pasture near present-day Beachville, Ontario. This is the story. 🧵 1/7 27732

Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 03/07/2025FAX technology actually dates back to the Second World War. Interesting article in one of the 1946 Saturday Evening Posts I have in my collection about the new technology and suggests it would fit with that other new tech of the era - FM Radio - as a transmission method rather than phone lines. 010

Big2Rob @big2rob.bsky.social · 20/06/2025Before there was podcasting as a side hustle for many celebrities, and before TV became common place, there was radio. I look back to these types of fires that our news team in Alberta covered over the last decade or so, and it boggles the mind how many homes were just randomly skipped by flames in Slave Lake, Fort McMurray, and Jasper. 020
