The admission came in litigation challenging DHS’s Unlawful Voter Initiative. According to court filings cited by Reason, officials identified “potential inaccuracies” in the system and acknowledged that, in rare circumstances, U.S. citizens could be incorrectly classified as noncitizens. The problem is not theoretical. DHS initially told Nevada that 15,903 possible noncitizens appeared on the state’s voter rolls. That number was later reduced to 185 names, and subsequent review found all 185 were U.S. citizens.
