Although, I think they've been called Revenue Protection Officers since they stopped wearing hats

Exciting developments on my train to Paddington after a train fault, but "The Network" and "Hitachi" have said the train can continue if it switches off its electronics module and runs diesel-only. At £2 per litre I'm expecting the conductor to organise a whip-round at any moment.

They obviously didn't withdraw their application fast enough, given that's what everyone else does!

After a week of motivational texts from Wessex Water about how well we're all doing with our water usage, they've announced a hosepipe ban from midnight, first in 50 years. With a war spirit I'm proud of, we have decided NOT to spend all afternoon sprinkling the lawn

How do you justify £325 for a one-day virtual event?

Went to a Mary Poppins themed restaurant last night. Super cauliflower cheese but the lobster was atrocious.

I think they all buy into the hype that it is a tidalwave so they better start surfing. Locking LLMs into processes of learning, without any controlled evaluation space, is irresponsible. But then so is exporting the nuts and bolts of your national competitive advantage andbpaying for the privilege

I can't believe so few people in the LinkedIn world see LLMs through the enshittification lens. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Well the sciences are falsifiable which - given a robust generation and review process 🙄 - makes them reliable and accepted in a way the (interpretative) social sciences never will or can be.

I was in Ireland last week and spoke to three different people who had recently, or were about to, hike the Camino. Place must have a longer line than Everest's peak 😅

Really? More than the fact that every application you use now defaults to its AI version and that AI is making a good attempt at dominating the national imagination?

In Meditations for Mortals, Oliver Burkeman says we try to curate what we read/absorb and its a hopeless task - he encourages us think of ourselves mid river with books and information passing by, and we will grab amd keep what we need, some will pass by completely. I found it a liberating thought!
