Massive news out of the UK with Prime Minister Andy Burnham announcing a National Commission on Electoral Reform, promising to contest the next election on implementing its findings. If the nation we inherited first-past-the-post from ditches it, what's our excuse?

If politicians feared opposition majorities with 40% of the vote, they would pass proportional representation. Instead, they rely on fear to lock in votes without earning them. Eventually the pendulum swings, leaving us stuck with the outcome we feared, under the system they refused to fix.

“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”

Manitoba has far fewer orphan oil and gas wells than other western provinces. That's partly because Manitoba's oil and gas industry is smaller, but it could also be the result of policy differences between the provinces.

There's a reason previous Liberal governments looked at privatizing airports and didn't go through with it. Private investors don't want a stake in our public assets to make them better. They’re in it to make as much money as possible for themselves - while workers and passengers pay the price.

This is cool— apparently @adamtranter.bsky.social transformed a street parking space into a parklet (mini park/public space), but the municipality removed it because it wasn’t a mother vehicle. So he did this. Nice job. And dumb interpretation by city hall. Via Marco Te BrommelStroet on LinkedIn.
Pictures of a mini trucka-like vehicle with a little park/park bench on the flatbed in the back. So essentially a mini park on top of a vehicle.
