Part of the conditions for these posts is you’re located/working in Latin America. There might be some interesting connections to make here between @globalvalueinquiry.bsky.social work on understandings of abundance, and those we advanced in our book (plutobooks.com/product/radical-abundance/)

Hard to know which is more shocking - the dire warnings of the potential collapse of our food system in the UK or the fact that governments have tried to cover it up. Their complacency is off the scale. We urgently need to switch to growing more food domestically & to restore nature now

Can't recommend this book, by @kmilb.bsky.social @kaiheron.bsky.social & @bertrussell.bsky.social, enough. It offers a sound analysis of our time of 'bullshit abundance and artificial scarcity' & combines it with an actionable plan to replace capitalism's stranglehold with another type of control.

Ireland has the weakest local government in the EU but this is not inevitable or irreversible. Reinventing local democratic institutions to improve quality of life can be common ground for many orgs and campaign groups here.

Merz has said that Germans need to "work harder", whilst the CDU is tabling a proposal that may include extending the working day to nine hours, reduce vacation entitlements, and modify the currently strict Sunday working legislation. Any 'leadership' of this sort will see Europe burn.

But Brenner himself had charted how "the financial sector continued to enjoy a historic ascent that was transforming the face of the economy. Every major trend of the period ran in favour of finance".

Again, Arrighi notes: "I see the financialization of capital, rather than persistent "over-capacity and over-production" in manufacturing, as the predominant capitalist response to the joint crisis of profitability and hegemony"

Yet Brenner himself had said: "In 1947, the US imposed its recently adopted Cold War perspectives upon the occupied lands, Germany as well as Japan. It made clear, in particular, that Marshall Plan aid was conditinoal upon the restoration of a free-market economy"

It seems to me that Arrighi overstates their differences somewhat. For example, Arrighi says: "All I am saying in contrast to Brenner is that, historically, uneven development after the Second World War was embedded from beginning to end in Cold War rivalries"
