Here’s a pika above the Hess Mine in 20 Lakes Basin and the description from our 2012 NAGT field guide to the area.
Furry small pika on lookout in a broken boulder field with a few sprigs of greenery in between. Caption from field guide reads
“Figure 21 - Pika above Hess Mine. Its ill temper, hideous looks and propensity for attacking unsuspecting victims with a leaping, fang-first attack have helped it become one of the most reviled and feared mammals known to man.”

Found a patch of what I suspect is Crocus speciosus (?) growing wild, much more strikingly marked than those in my garden. I feel some sampling is needed 🫣
Bright mauve crocus flowers amongst a swatye of assorted greeneryStriking dark purple veining inside a mauve crocus flower viewed from above, golden orange stigmas at the centre

Sadly I don’t think I’ll be permitted to miss those cold, wet, dark training runs that will soon be upon us 🤣

Resting heart rate creeping back down - though 40 feels a bit too low 👀
A bar chart showing resting heart rate. The trend over the last two weeks going steadily downwards with the most recent reading at 40 beats per minute

I bought this almost a year ago and struggled to get into it. For some reason it’s working this time - recommended.

Mists on cue this morning, hoping for mellow fruitfulness later.

Is that a Wisteria?!? If/when it flowers the bees are going to love it. Probably provided a home to spiders, aphids etc - all good bird food 😉

Fun fact, this was a verbatim reviewer comment: "The results look fake, and the images of plastics also look like these were created by AI. I sincerely hope that this manuscript was a test by these authors or a test of this journal, because this should not be published in any journal as it is" 🤡

About the race – Runtrip
You’ll live like a vagabond, moving on foot through an island of sea cliffs, open meadows, and ancient churches. There are many places to find shelter or refill water, and locals are famously kind — some may even set up spontaneous Angel Stations along the way.
