A few years ago I participated in an auction & bought a unique poster for The Erpingham Camp by Joe Orton from Leonie Orton (Joe's sister). It’s a priceless piece of queer history that I get to enjoy. Arranging with the Orton Archive to pass the poster over on a long term/permanent loan.

Drop a picture of yourself and turn it B&W

A black and white close-up portrait of @benjiw wearing glasses and a crucifix.

@benjiw is a middle-aged gay man, centered in the frame. The composition is simple and @benjiw appears to be amused or happy, as the mouth is open in a wide smile. The lighting appears to be neutral, casting no strong shadows.

Popped my feet up, got some grapes to nibble, got a book about Julian of Norwich to finish. Restful evening ahead. Really looking forward to it.

When I first moved back to Birmingham in the early aughts I was a victim of homophobic hate crime. Spoke to the police and they were amazing. I also found the pansy project to be a gentle way to mark the location. I appreciated them adding my pansy to the map. thepansyproject.com/locations/

Book series suggestion of the day: The Murderbot sequence by Martha Wells. I’d heard good things about the sequence of books but wasn’t prepared for the levels of snarky fun in the books. It’s a lovely blend of humour, action and heart. It’s very good.

A poorly cobbled together collage of three of the covers of Martha Wells’ Murderbot sequence. Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy, and All Systems Red.

Good morning, slept really well last night. The little gadgets to help my mobility (and keep my independence) are bringing me peace of mind. I appreciate the NHS so much. They’ve been a constant in my life from cradle to now. We have to preserve it, cherish it and fight hard for it.

My Facebook algorithm is so broken it just served me a Paris Hilton post. I hate Facebook but it is ever so useful for what I’m doing at the moment.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this: Generation X by Douglas Coupland is a great book. My favourite part of the book was when the characters describe what their best memory of Earth will be once they’ve died, and the only rule was that it had to be a free/unpaid experience. What’s yours?

Feeling much more human after a shower. One leg in the shower I notice the unkink your colon toilet step.. why hadn’t I noticed it until today? Step up, into shower: humanity restored. Hoping the OT has something a bit more, er, sturdy.

A toilet training step that holds 100kg.

Donate to Benji’s Big Brummie (Blue)Print, organised by Liz Garlinge

The Portrait gofundme continues. The idea is for a local artist to create a beautiful portrait of me to enjoy & then pass along to my family to enjoy when I’ve passed away. 124 donations, over £3k donated so far. It’s incredible so many people have resonated with this vision. gofund.me/36d2da2a

A good day today but ending with me starting to realise some of my limitations. I don’t have as much strength in my arms and legs that I’m used to. Struggling with some simple tasks. Glad I have the OT nurses coming out with some simple solutions to help keep me independent. :-)

For #WomensHistoryMonth, read Heather's blog about her activism as chair of Save Easington Area Mines in East Durham and with the national organisation Women Against Pit Closures. www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/...

a woman wearing sunglasses says " praise satan " in a netflix ad

I adore the band The Mountain Goats but I need a better earworm this morning than the final refrain from The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton. Not sure waddling around singing/whistling “hail satan” will be easy to explain in my context.

Alt: Miranda Otto as Zelda Spellman in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina from Netflix. She is wearing sunglasses and says "praise satan!".

Good morning, body woke up earlier than I expected so my brain joined in too. It’s handy for my blood tests this morning. Slept well. Felling bright. Ask me again about 4pm GMT & we’ll see how bright I feel.

My book suggestion of the day is: The Juryman's Tale by Trevor Grove. A first hand account of serving on a jury during a trial of kidnappers (no, it’s weirder than you’re expecting). It’s also a stirring defence of the trial by jury process. Brilliant for a bookclub, fantastic to read alone.

The cover to the non-fiction book The Juryman’s Tale by Trevor Grove. A collection of black and white passport-style photographs, likely of individuals, forms the image.

The scene composition consists of nine individual portrait photographs arranged in a three-by-three grid. Each photograph features a person with a neutral expression.
The photographs are uniformly sized and positioned, creating a symmetrical layout. The framing is simple, with the photographs filling the majority of the image space.
