Hello hello Bluesky followers. Think of this as a safe rest point. A checkpoint you can stay for a while. You won’t lose any progress by being here. Just think to yourself “May I feel safe. May I feel content. May I feel strong. May I live with ease.”

On the Gay Agenda today: chatting with my oncologist about blood test results from Monday which may mean some treatment tomorrow; moisturise; trim nails; possibly taking delivery of a high backed chair & foot rest.

Good morning. I was hoping for something of a lie in… body clearly has something else in mind. Slept well but shifted due to meds yesterday. Yesterday was good but anyone that saw me said how tired I looked.

At Uni we performed Funeral Games and I played Pringle. Orton’s plays have some pin sharp satires and delightful humour. Teenage me would marvel at how things have turned out. He was so ashamed & scared. Where’s that fear now?

For my A Level theatre studies course my friend Katie and I performed the opening scene from What The Butler Saw. Then I saw there was a touring youth theatre production of The Erpingham Camp (I played Mr Erpingham) with Theatre In Downs who were based in Chippenham.

Both of the archivists remember me practically skipping with joy as I explored the items and it was such a special experience for me. It reminded them what a privilege it is to have the collection.

The special collections team at Leicester University have been amazing at helping me arrange this. They said being named as a donor in the library catalogue would mean I’d be linked with Joe Orton.

A few years ago I participated in an auction & bought a unique poster for The Erpingham Camp by Joe Orton from Leonie Orton (Joe's sister). It’s a priceless piece of queer history that I get to enjoy. Arranging with the Orton Archive to pass the poster over on a long term/permanent loan.

Drop a picture of yourself and turn it B&W

A black and white close-up portrait of @benjiw wearing glasses and a crucifix.

@benjiw is a middle-aged gay man, centered in the frame. The composition is simple and @benjiw appears to be amused or happy, as the mouth is open in a wide smile. The lighting appears to be neutral, casting no strong shadows.

When I first moved back to Birmingham in the early aughts I was a victim of homophobic hate crime. Spoke to the police and they were amazing. I also found the pansy project to be a gentle way to mark the location. I appreciated them adding my pansy to the map. thepansyproject.com/locations/

Book series suggestion of the day: The Murderbot sequence by Martha Wells. I’d heard good things about the sequence of books but wasn’t prepared for the levels of snarky fun in the books. It’s a lovely blend of humour, action and heart. It’s very good.

A poorly cobbled together collage of three of the covers of Martha Wells’ Murderbot sequence. Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy, and All Systems Red.

Good morning, slept really well last night. The little gadgets to help my mobility (and keep my independence) are bringing me peace of mind. I appreciate the NHS so much. They’ve been a constant in my life from cradle to now. We have to preserve it, cherish it and fight hard for it.
