What is social media for if not for yelling all the time?

Leftists can claim to be effective all they like but you can't deny Hegseth is doing more to destroy the American Military than any left-wing person has managed in decades. Like all you'll have to do if leftists take power is go "actually the institution ain't worth rebuilding after all that".

It's insane to me that CNN, MSNBC and Politico didn't have major investigative news stories that would piss off administration officials waiting in the wings if they were banned from the press pool. Once again it is clear major news media is playing a fundamentally different game than in the past.

The new line on gas prices appears to be "$4 a gallon is cheaper than other liquids". I have seen this line of argument at least three times. Of course, I don't have to buy these other liquids in bulks of 15 gallons every two weeks, but that doesn't seem to matter.

If by some miracle we actually get a left leaning president in 2028, at least the absolute decimation of what was left of the US' status as a global superpower under Trump is a good excuse to stop subsidizing the military industrial complex.

Every time we have such high heat in September I think about how we honestly have not held the boomers accountable enough for essentially destroying our environment.

I still think about that time Reddit had a competition to see who would win Game of Thrones, with the winner getting an account badge, which ended up being a weird tie between "Brann" and "No One" on a technicality. And then, for some reason people who voted for Sansa also got a "winning" badge.

One of the things no one talks about, but absolutely should, is how the contractors who illegally demolished/built the ballroom when it had been stayed should *also* be held accountable. Destitute or jail time, whichever is easier.

If democrats win back control of the house and senate in 2026, they should just try Republican style bullshit for the entire term. Like they should codify "every bill that passes will be considered to have passed on 1/3/27" and argue the president can't veto after 1/13 anything. Just for fun.

Centrist democrats cannot get over the fact that the base of the party has changed largely because of their own inaction. It is more extremist, more socialist, and more anti-Israel. That is what all this Hasan Piker stuff is about. They want a simple, fantasy solution—if they reject Piker, it stops

I find it weird no one is talking about how Natalie Harp is clearly writing Trump's truth social posts. Like the weird capitalization and grammar, that matches her letters, gets real intense once she joins the Trump team.

You should be legally required to include in the headline of an article about a candidate's "chance of winning" whether that chance is based off of actual polling or the wisdom of gamblers.

In high school I had to do an interview for a scholarship where they asked what I thought the biggest global problem was, I answered "the Invasion of Crimea." They asked me what I would do to fix it, and I said I thought it was too complex for a high schooler to fix. They didn't like that answer.

Please, I'm begging the DSA, stop putting Megan Romer on right wing media. She is absolutely awful at communicating DSA points to conservatives and seemingly gets tricked by every obvious trap question.

I just played Jedi Survivor and Respawn *has* to kill Cal in the next game after this right? Like I don't WANT him to die, but at this point I don't know how you naturally justify him not being in the OT other than by having him not be alive for them.

Two panel comic. Panel 1: Omni Man and Invincible are floating in the sky. Two fighter jets are flying nearby. One is labeled "double" and the other is labeled "float". Omni Man is labeled "Mathematicians". Panel 2: Omni Man / Mathematicians turn to Invincible and say "Look what they need to mimic a fraction"

I've called myself a leftist for literally longer than most of the modern left has been old enough to vote. If this is what we're okay with—if y'all are truly okay with carrying water for this guy—I don't think that term describes me any longer.

One of my biggest disappointments is when there's a really good Monster of the Week show, and every week's monster is solid, and then it abruptly goes "and here's three episodes of *plot*" where I'm just left wondering when we're going to get back to the Monster of thr Week stuff.

It'll never not be amazing to me that we had spent decades developing algorithms that were so fine tuned on human behavior they could tell if you were pregnant before pregnancy tests were effective and we threw all that away for a technology that might *one day* be able to reduce labor costs.

One of the most astonishing this about my job—we have a Nintendo Switch for kids to play, and a huge number of millenial parents want us to *teach* their kids how to play the games on it. A sufficiently motivated kid with a first grade reading level can learn to play any Nintendo game on their own

What I know is that, if this is not all just incredibly dangerous bluster, tomorrow we will wake up to a bunch of people adamantly claiming that this is *not* what they voted for. They are lying. And, worse, they will go back to full heartedly supporting a third term in less than two months.

So the timing of Wiles' cancer diagnosis announcement coincides with the Iran war in such a way where, along with the reporting that Wiles was absolutely furious trying to deal with the fallout of the strikes, I am 99% convinced that Trump's cabinet brought these to Trump behind her back

I've seen a number of takes that ICE is escalating because they're emboldened, and I disagree—I think they're escalating because they're afraid. You don't brutalize protesters because you think you're winning.

It is clear, at this point, the "purity test" we should be looking for with democratic candidates in 2026 and beyond is a fervent and zealous willingness to utterly destroy the Republican party.

So almost a year in, is it time for us to acknowledge that accelerationism just *doesn't exist*, at least in any meaningful capacity? The same people who screamed "if Trump is elected people will finally start to wake up" are simply nowhere to be found when they could be waking people up.

the thing that gets me about the OU paper situation is that the paper is just embarrassingly bad. like it should not only be embarrassing to the girl to have written it but it should be embarrassing to conservative grifters that they're defending it.

Exceptionally funny to me that Mike Johnson is ultimately very minorly to blame for the whole shutdown, but his insistence on being a creepy little guy about it in the press seems liable to land him the entirety of the blame after this is over.

When you devote your life to the message that empathy is evil and gun deaths are an acceptable price to pay for gun rights, you shape the world with your words. Maybe Charlie Kirk didn’t expect to be a victim of his own worldbuilding, but his death is consistent with the world he helped create.

I know it's pretty small potatoes compared to everything else in this bill, but a reminder that, if you think you're going to get off relatively unscathed because you're not on government assistance, the BBB also decimates student loan forgiveness and repayment programs.

WHOA. Sit with this excerpt. When ICE arrested the 75-year-old who died in their custody, he had a dog with him, Chulo, whose previous owner had already been taken by ICE. ICE officers left Chulo loosely tied outside the humane society. He then got free and was hit by a car.
Miami Herald:

"His family members said he was arrested while sitting at the Murray Nelson Government Center, a community center in Key Largo. A family friend who was present sent relatives a photo of his arrest. Pérez had three chihuahuas, two of them in Alaniz’s care. But Chulo – whose previous owner Alaniz said had also been detained by ICE – was taken by officers to a humane society. They left him tied outside, but he escaped and was hit by a car, Pérez’s family said. A woman saved the dog, and continues to take care of him. Chulo “suffered a lot with the arrest,” said Alaniz."

It's really good that the Democrats didn't remove the filibuster to pass meaningful legislation, otherwise the Republicans wouldn't have to come up with a single basic justification for overriding it in the budget bill. Truly this has saved the country from catastrophe.
